Lawrence Eugene Kolybaba was born September 17, 1948 at Foam Lake, the first born child of Bill and Mary (Prosak)?Kolybaba. Lawrence was joined in marriage to Verna Zemlak on July 14, 1973 at the Foam Lake Ukrainian Orthodox Church, joining a large and loving family. He passed to the Heavenly World on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Foam Lake Jubilee Home. Lawrence leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, his loving wife Verna (Zemlak); sisters Elaine Ross and Marlene Kolybaba and brothers Brian (Nicolette) and Dale (Diane), numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents Mary and Bill; his in-laws Carl and Nettie Zemlak, brothers-in-law Clarence Zemlak and Bill Spak and various aunts, uncles and cousins. Lawrences childhood was spent on the family farm, helping tend to the animals from an early age. He began his education at the Hazel country school and continued at Foam Lake Composite. A man who was never afraid of work, Lawrence began shouldering responsibility at a very early age. His siblings recall that he was the one who hitched the horses to the wagon to drive them to Hazel school where his education began. Lawrence began working out as a young teenager the summer his father purchased the first baler in the neighbourhood. Lawrence was commissioned to do custom baling and was gone from home for the entire summer at only thirteen years of age. His work took him all the way to Parkerview, a long way from home, at that time. This was an indication of the strong work ethic that would serve him well for the rest of his days. Deciding academics were not for him, Lawrence sought and found employment at a plumbing shop in Wadena for a time. As adventure called, he made his way to Manitoba where he worked at the INCO?nickel mine at Thompson. Lawrences natural inclination was for mechanics and so he eventually gravitated to working for Southside Service in Foam Lake. He was encouraged in his education during this time and began attending sessions at SIAST in Saskatoon. He worked for Andy and Verna Antonyshen at Andys Auto Parts in the early 1970s. It was during these days that he began courting Verna and she spent many Saturday nights in Andys shop on Main Street waiting for her date . Lawrence enjoyed working for the Markusson family and the Antonyshens and appreciated the opportunity to learn his trade from them. At about this same time, Lawrence began farming and was soon joined by his new bride - living in the family farmhouse. During this time, he continued working out as the opportunity arose and continued his pursuit of Mechanics at SIAST. In 1975 Lawrence and Verna purchased their own farm where they began building their future and have resided since. Through their hard work, they developed a thriving and progressive farm raising cattle, pigs, chickens and grain farming. In 1983 Lawrence left the employment world permanently and focused on farming. While Lawrence loved farming, he also enjoyed some other pursuits - snowmobiling with the neighbours and friends, fishing with his in-laws, spending time with the young people in the family and socializing with his buddies. Lawrence always had a special cat and had a strong affection for most animals. He was a good neighbour, always willing to help and a true friend who will be sadly missed by his many companions.
