Obituary
Anna Bernice (Reynolds) Rose was born near Leslie, Saskatchewan on September 8, 1924. She was named after the midwife, Anna Paulson but was always called Bernice. She was the third of nine children born to Ernie and Irene Reynolds. Bernice attended Leslie School and passed Grade 9 before taking her first job as a housekeeper. She was then asked to fill a position that was vacated by a WW2 serviceman at the Foam Lake Creamery. In 1943, the Reynolds family moved to Vancouver where she worked for 2 yeas at Canada Packers. When Bernice arrived back in Leslie she started work at the Leslie Store and Café. Bernice and Jack Rose met at a dance and they were married on June 24, 1949. They loved to dance and spent many happy hours at local dances and traveling around to square dances. Their first home together was in the Mt. Hecla/ Ladstock area. Their daughters Marilyn and Arlene were born while they lived there and they cherished them with all their hearts. In 1956, they moved to Leslie. They raised the girls there and this is where Bernice spent her next 58 years. Bernice was happiest on a ball diamond, a sheet of curling ice or in a bowling alley. She had great stories to tell of good times growing up and playing ball with her family and neighboring cousins. Playing with the renowned Leslie Linnetts ball team was a highlight of her life. In later years, her enthusiasm shifted to being an armchair athlete cheering on her beloved Toronto Blue Jays and Saskatchewan Roughriders. She was always loyal even though they frustrated her sometimes! Curling rinks were her second home in the winter months. She curled in bonspiels and competitions far and wide and was very successful. When she was no longer comfortable on the curling ice she shifted to bowling and never looked back. At 89 years of age she decided to cut back from 3 leagues a week to 2 at the Foam Lake Bowling Alley. Bernice was active in the Leslie Ladies Auxiliary, Leslie United Church, Leslie Hall Committee, Leslie Curling Club and was always there to lend a helping hand at any event that required a volunteer. She was very proud to be a part of the Leslie Community. Everyone was welcome in the Rose home and there was quite often a house full. If you were lucky there would be a fresh batch of buns coming out of the oven. Bernice baked buns that were enjoyed by everyone and she supplied dozens of them for various functions. Family was everything to her. She kept close contact with her siblings and their families and with Jack’s family until her passing. She had a deep love for her daughters and their families. She was a huge part of her grandchildren's lives and nothing brought a smile to her face like a visit from her precious great grandchildren. In 2014, she moved to Saskatoon for a brief time before moving to Martensville to be closer to her family. She lived independently at the Golden Sunset Villa amongst some great new friends until February 2019. At that time she moved to Warman Retirement Private Care Home where she was welcomed with open arms. On August 2, 2019, she slept peacefully away in St Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
