Obituary
Memorial Service Wednesday, February 17, 2016 2:00 p.m. Kuroki Community Hall Kuroki, Saskatchewan Fellowship & Lunch to follow In lieu of Flowers Donations in his memory may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation or Charity of One’s choice Mike was born on the family farm north of Kuroki to Afanas and Anna Daviduk. He took his schooling at Kuroki School until grade 10, and then helped out on the family farm. He met Effie Shinkewski at the Café her parents owned at that time in Kuroki, and she became the love of his life; they were married on October 19th, 1952 and were married for 63 years. Mike and Effie ran a general store at Pikwitonei, Manitoba, southeast of Thompson for a few years. In the winters, Mike also drove the bombardier for Lindals where he transported supplies to the mines with Frank Prince. Mike and Effie decided to move back to Kuroki and help farm with his dad and brother John, and years later his son Michael also helped farm. During this time they had four children, Donna, Marian, Michael, and Katherine. His greatest pride was his 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way. Mike was president of the Kuroki Community Club, was on the Kuroki School Board, and a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was an active curler, broomball player, hockey player, carpenter, and hunter. He spent many winters up at the moose shack hunting big game. Mike’s biggest passion was music. He started playing the accordion at the age of 4. He taught himself to play by ear, and could play any musical instrument that he touched. When he lost his hearing in July of last year his music career ended. Mike missed his music the most. Over his lifetime he played with 5 bands for all kinds of occasions; including family birthday parties, and gatherings. He was very proud to play with his 3 brothers in the Daviduk Brothers Band, and was also a member of the Tuffnell Jammers. Mike had his own special place at the Neilson Trucking Limited shop. You would often see him there tinkering and making his own unique items. He always had a fresh pot of coffee ready for the guys and was always treating everyone with something. This past Christmas he made each of the great-grandchildren a special toy that he carved out of wood and painted with his favorite colors and his signature red dot. Mike loved to travel around the countryside in all directions. He loved to check out crops, find old machinery and follow the wildlife. Mike was a kind, and gentle man, always helping others in anyway he could. Unfortunately, Mike made his last journey on February 1, 2016. He will be forever remembered and loved by his family; wife, Effie; daughter, DONNA (Brad) Ekstrom their children, Aaron (Lori) Ekstrom, Easton and Tyson; Derek (Shay) Ekstrom, Azlyn, Dryden, and Eden; daughter, MARIAN (Terry) Neilson, their children, Marc (Briana) Neilson, Mia and Bodie; Marci (Frank) Bond, Parker, and Cooper; daughter-in-law, KATHY (Daviduk) Trent Brister, her children, Graham (Kailey) Daviduk and Mason, Philip (Alex) Daviduk, Nancy Daviduk; daughter, KATHERINE (David) Hoffman, their children, Zane (Rene) Redekop, Emma, Jamie, and Abbey, Shayla (Chris) Prosofsky, Daysen (Kristin) Hoffman, Jenna Hoffman, baby Ira (who made us smile everyday through this) brother; John (Rita) Daviduk, sisters-in-laws, Bonnie Daviduk, Dianne Shinkewski; brother-in-law, Rudy Shinkewski; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
