Obituary
Mary was born on June 22, 1923 in the Fosston District to pioneer parents Peter and Hafia (Yamniuk) Meleschak. She was the fifth of eight children. Mary attended school in Fosston for manufacturing plant in Winnipeg and the Mohyla Institute in Saskatoon. In 1940 she began courting her father's hired man, Steve Kresowaty. Their courtship was put on hold as Steve entered the light infantry in WWII and was sent overseas. When Steve returned after the war, they married in 1947. Mary and Steve purchased land seven miles south of Foam Lake where they resided and as the years went by, they expanded their farm. During this time they raised a family of one daughter and three sons. Mary and Steve enjoyed visiting with family and neighbours over the years and had many close friendships. Mary and Steve retired to the town of Foam Lake in the fall of 1975. Over the years Mary was active on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church board, church choir, ladies aide, hospital auxiliary and museum as well as other organizations. Mary enjoyed family gatherings with her children and grandchildren at Christmas, Easter and other occasions, which involved her in cooking and baking a great deal which she didn't mind. Mary loved gardening, crocheting and quilting. Over the years she made many quilts and afghans for grandchildren and family members as well as for fundraisers. When Mary's health began to deteriorate in 2011, she took up residence in the Foam Lake Jubilee Home where she resided until her passing. Mary passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord at the Foam Lake Jubilee Home on October 19, 2014 at the age of 91 with her family by her side. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband Steve, grandson Chris, sister Eileen and brothers Andrew, Paul and Harry. Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory and life are her daughter Stephanie (Orest) Kresak; her sons Eugene, Ron (Marlene) and John (Barb); her grandchildren Michael (Barb), Rosanne (Mike), Kerry (Blaine), Daniel (Pam), Amy (Ryan), Conrad, Bryon (Amanda), Leith, Jared and Marita; also her twelve great grandchildren. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters Annie Romaniuk, Pearl Makar, Sophie (Bill) Pyatt, sister-in-law Sophie Johnston, brother-in-law Nick (Joyce) Kresowaty and many nieces, nephews and friends.
