Obituary
Steve Hayko was born October 29, 1930 on the family farm in the Springburn School area just north east of Wynyard, Saskatchewan. He lived all his life within the RM of Elfros and the Town of Wynyard. He was the eldest of ten children. He passed away quietly in his own home on March 31, 2016. Steve was a quiet gentle man. He was a farmer first and he left school to help his father farm at the age of 14. His chosen occupation was mechanic and he did a correspondence course in diesel engineering to attain this goal. He was Head Mechanic at Wynyard Co-op Implements for many years. He became Service Manager and part owner with Lorne Hoberg and Rodney Anderson of Wynyard Equipment Sales Ltd. in 1974. He held this position until 2007 when his age and health dictated that he start taking life easier. Steve’s interests included hockey and he was goal judge for the Wynyard Monarch’s Hockey team for many, many years. He also was a big Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and had season tickets forever. He loved nature and owls especially. He was a kind and caring man, a perfectionist in everything he did. He was a family man and enjoyed his nieces and nephews immensely. Steve was predeceased by both his parents, John and Annie Hayko; his brothers Mervin Hayko and Ray Hayko; his brothers-in-law Joseph Prisciak, Barry McKinnon, Matthew Popadynetz, Franklin Chasky, and Alfred Field; his sister Carol Hayko; and his niece Peggy Roettger. Steve is survived by six sisters: Mary Prisciak, Rosemarie McKinnon, Hope Popadynetz, Vicky Chasky, Jean Field, Joni Cursio and two sisters-in-law Doreen Hayko and Carol Hayko and their children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all of us.
