Violet Valerie Haugerud (nee Holinaty) passed away peacefully in Wadena, SK December 6, 2017. Vie was born in Hudson Bay, SK on February 19, 1950 to Elsie (nee Chunyk) and John Holinaty, the oldest of 5 children. On February 24, 1968 Vie married Earl Haugerud of Hudson Bay. Vie and Earl made their home in Hudson Bay, SK. where they raised their three children. Cory was born in 1969, Curt in 1970 and Coleen in 1972. Of Vie’s passions, hard work was the one that drove her. She began her work life as the SAAN store manager in 1979, progressed to owner of VenEz’s Fashions in 1980. Once the entrepreneurial bug bit, Vie was off with her business partner Earl. Businesses included a midway (1981-82), EV Carpet Cleaning (1981) and amassing numerous rental properties in Hudson Bay. The big move was made in 1997 to the Blue Willow Inn. Other Wadena/Kelvington businesses included Porky’s Drive Inn, Chicken Little, Weneda Park Lodge, catering as well as numerous rental properties. Volunteering was one of Vie’s passions, to connect her with worthwhile causes, communities and other like minded people. They included the skating rink and Crisis Center in Hudson Bay, Arts Council, Curling Club, Farmers Market, Hospital, Prairie Women on Snowmobiles and Museum in Wadena and Kelvington Vie loved people and wanted to connect with each and every person she met. Guests at the motel, lodge residents and restaurant patrons were often provided extras. Nurses and doctors often had to provide life details while caring for Vie. Vie loved animals and you could never guarantee what kind of animals they were raising. She cared for dogs, cats, llamas, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, cockatiels, budgies, horses, donkeys, potbellied pig, goats and fish. Vie’s true passion and one that always won out everytime was her grandchildren. Ryan, Blake, Sarah, Jordan, and Luke. They were her pride and joy and they loved her for it. She cherished any chance to spend time with them. She will be sadly missed by her husband Earl (49 years, 9 months), Sons Cory (Jenn) - Blake and Luke; Curt – Jordan; Daughter Coleen (Wade) - Ryan and Sarah . Siblings: Dolores Meyers (Brian), Eugene Holinaty (Barb), Patsy Dennis (Gordon). Siblings in law; Amy Gjesdal (Alfred), Francis Haugerud. Numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; Carmen, and all her friends. She was predeceased by her parents John and Elsie Holinaty, parents in law Vernon and Della Haugerud; sister Betty Ann Holinaty, brother in law Glen Haugerud; nephew Marvin Gjesdal. Vie beat lupus, and cancer… she is a fighter.
