Obituary
John Lemko was born on September 2, 1926 the third child of William & Mary (Chorney) Lemko. He lived on the family farm in the Park Villa District attending the Park Villa School - when the family moved to a different farm, John decided he was not changing schools and quit school, making his parents very unhappy. Because his Dad wanted him to go to school, he would not let him work on his threshing crew, so John's first job was on Palmer Vigoren's threshing crew. He then worked at the Service Station at Clair for Bob & Lydia Gray and farmed with his father and brother, Billy. For two winters John attended Edmonton Tech School in the Mechanics & Welding programs. In 1953 he bought the Service Station from Bob & Lydia Gray and it became Johnnie's Esso Service. John did not need a computer to diagnose, he just listened and could tell you what was wrong. John then bought land one mile North of Clair, the Leitch farm and would work in the Service Station during the day and farm at night. He often made the comment how Mr. Kapeluck came out to help him because the land was such a mess. In 1959, John decided to take on another business and bid on a bus route and purchased his first school bus. In 1960 he purchased his second bus as the rural schools began to close. This is where he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Dianne Rudick. The school busing continued as he purchased his third bus and then a fourth. John enjoyed busing and his students, watching then begin as little children, graduating and later being invited to their weddings. The family extended to include his employees, Norman Sutherland, John Gollings, Robert & Estelle Vigoren. John loved his bus children and he and Dianne often said that they were unable to have their own children but had bus loads of kids! John drove two generations to school. On July 12, 1969, John married Dianne Rudick and she joined him as a wife and business partner, making their home in Quill Lake. In 1979, John & Dianne, sold the Service Station to Robert & Estelle Vigoren, and concentrated on farming and school busing and bought their fourth bus. In 1987, John was diagnosed with prostate cancer. John & Dianne decided to resign from their bus contract which they did in July of 1988. John was very thankful to the Lord for being a cancer survivor right till his passing. John & Dianne loved spending time together and worked well together. In 1974 they built their home in Quill Lake and that was when John found he enjoyed carpentry. John, not only worked, he enjoyed twenty plus trips with his wife. They took their first trip in 1972 to California after which they made many trips by car into the United States, around Canada and flying on many other trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and went on a Caribbean Cruise. In the summer he enjoyed taking the motorhome with the boat behind to Tobin and then to Jan Lake to be with special friends, Richard & Bernie Rogers of Kennewick, Washington and Steve & Violet Moleski from Dysart. Family was very important to John. Enjoying trips to Fort Worth Texas and Grimsby, Ontario to visit with family, especially seeing his nephews, nieces and then his great-nieces and nephews. Many lived far from John, but Madison lived in Quill Lake and he enjoyed playing with her, buying her treats and often eating them on her. John loved his Lord and Savior and when he accepted his Lord as his Savior he always knew that God was always there for him and he knew should he die, he was assured to be heaven bound. Attending church was very important and even when he was on holidays, he would look for a church for Sunday morning. Reading the Bible was a daily thing he did and Daily Bread Devotions. It was so sad when the dementia took away his ability to read his Bible. Other things John enjoyed was curling and Operation Christmas Child and hauling many cartons of shoe boxes to Saskatoon to be shipped to children who never receive a Christmas gift.
