Olivia Gladys (Burns) Smith was born on March 29, 1917 and passed away peacefully at Golden Acres Nursing Home on January 8, 2017. Olivia was born the fourth child to Garda and Alexander Burns. She was raised on a farm near Drake, Saskatchewan. As a young girl, she loved to read. This was a passion throughout her life. Olivia attended Normal School in 1936-1937. She taught two years at a school near Lockwood, from there she taught two years at Rose Vale School. She boarded at Howard Sr. and Ethel Smith’s home, and this is how her, and her husband Howard Jr. met. She left and taught at Pelly the next year, but corresponded with Howard; they were married on October 30, 1943. Olivia loved her yard and garden, she was involved with The Elfros Horticulture Group for many years. Olivia and Howard raised four children: Janet, Audrey, Robert, and Harvey. Olivia leaves to cherish her memory her children: daughter, Janet (Jim) Hale; son-in-law, (Audrey's husband) Don (Colleen) Sanderson; son, Robert (Correen) Smith; son, Harvey Smith: her grandchildren; Jenny (Dale) Glessman, Trevor (Dianna) Hale, Corralee Smith (Seamus Warde), Brad (Jennifer) Smith, Leslie Sanderson, Lindsay Sanderson (Jon Stene): her great-grandchildren, Kyle (Jenna) Hale, Makayla Glessman, Dee (Janelle) Glessman, Justin Glessman, Emily Smith, Owen Smith and William Stene: her sister, Rosalyn, her sister-in-law, Johanna and many nieces and nephews. Olivia was predeceased by, her husband, Howard, daughter, Audrey, her brothers; Orland, Basil, Wendell, and Robert; her sister, Joy. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2017 Elfros Hall, Elfros, Saskatchewan. Interment to follow at the Elfros Cemetery, Elfros, Saskatchewan.
