Obituary
Wasyl (Bill) Danchuk the third child of Nick and Sophie (Shewchuk) Danchuk was born on March 21, 1925 on their farm in the Round Plain District. Bill was a farmer born and raised, who knew what it meant to work hard and live well. While he spent a lot of time in the fields and reading the latest farming news he always had time for his brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins as well as his nieces and nephews who came to visit. He was brimming with stories of his life on the farmand visit to the old country. Bill was generous in all that he did. He taught many of his nieces and nephews, and greats how to play cribbage. And, he never turned down an opportunity to challenge someone to a game. Bill loved gardening and enjoyed the fruits of his labour whether it be vegetables or flowers. He spent his leisure time playing crib and 3-spot, shooting pool, curling, playing bingo, taking day trips on the bus to the casino and visiting with family and friends. Bill, a gentle, patient man who lived his life quietly, was always close by to lend a hand or an ear as needed. He had a good sense of humour and a kind word to say about everyone. Bill loved his family with all that he was and was well loved in return. Bill will be greatly missed by his sister Margaret Hopkins; in-laws Betty Danchuk, Olga Danchuk, Victor Malinowski; his thirty nieces and nephews and many greats and great-greats. He was predeceased by his parents, Nick (1975) and Sophie (1940); brothers, Johnny (1921), Raymond (1936), Joseph (1940), Harold (1996) and Mike (2015); sisters, Mary (1923), Annie (1926), Irene (1998), Beatrice (2003), Lillian (2004), Olive (2013) and Phyllis (2014); and brothers-in-law, Howard Nelson, Sandy Wolitski and Jim Hopkins. Bill’s recent conversation with his great-great niece Violett sums up nicely what is in our hearts… “Uncle Bill, do you know what makes an uncle great?” “No,” replied Uncle Bill “I don’t know what makes an uncle great.” Responding with a big smile, Violett said, “You do!” Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017 Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church Wynyard, Saskatchewan Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2017 Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church Wynyard, Saskatchewan
