Bjarnason was born June 30, 1942 in Wynyard Sask. to Arthur and Kristjana Bjarnason. He passed away peacefully on Sept 18, 2012 with family by his side. Arlan grew up on the family farm just north of Wynyard and spent all but six years of his life on the farm. Arlan was a quiet, gentle person; a man of few words always knew what to say and when to say it! Arlan took all his schooling in Wynyard. When he finished his grade twelve , he went to work " helping build some of the sidewalks in Wynyard, then the Community clinic building on main street (now Aurora Spa), Arlan then moved on to delivering milk for Wynyard Creamery- he remembered delivering the small silver milk cooler to the Shanty Inn (which was still in use when it closed). In April 1963 Arlan started his 33 year career with Canadian Pacific Railway and a trainman and later a conductor. When he retired from the CPR, Arlan drove the special services bus in Wynyard on alternate weekend and at times was the relief driver during the week. He retired from driving the bus saying he wanted to retire before he should be riding the bus and not driving it. In August 1966 Arlan married Rosellen Lindal " the day of their wedding the CPR workers went on strike " as a result their honeymoon was shortened so he could come back and picket with the rest of the workers. They were blessed with two sons Dale and Blaine. As the boys were growing up Arlan attended as many of their sporting events as work allowed- hockey, and ball games, football games were the sports he enjoyed watching the most. Arlan and Rosellen did some travelling- to England , Arizona, the west coast, but for the most part Arlan preferred staying close to home. He spent many hours in the garden tilling and weeding with the Dutch hoe and watering his tomatoes and the gladiolus (which he lovingly called the weeds).Arlan always looked forward to the spring when the hummingbirds returned as he enjoyed watching them come to the feeders. He also enjoyed watching the wild life that passed through the yard. For many years the pasture was home to friends horses and he enjoy going out to feed them oats and watch them run in the pasture. Arlan spent many hours with the grandchildren " talking about alligators and airplanes and many other topics. He enjoyed playing card games with them and also spent hours playing solitaire. As a young person Arlan was an avid reader- he was a speed reader so he finished reading way ahead of his class mates. Arlan is survived by his wife of 46 years Rosellen, sons: Dale (Rosina) John (Brianna) Bentley, James, Kristjana; Blaine, (Brandy) Kohl and Camille and many nieces and nephews, cousins. Arlan is predeceased by two infant brothers, his parents Arthur and Kristjana; in-laws Steini and Gert Lindal, several aunts and uncles. He will be greatly missed by all those whose life he has touched.
