Obituary
Anna was born in Poland on January 3, 1923 to Kost and Kazmira “Katie” Shurgot. That is where she learned about farming helping her mother farm while her father came to Canada to start a new life for his family. Her brotheer, Roman Shurgot (Rhoda) and sister, Jean Wetzel (Pete) completed the Shurgot family. They sailed to Quebec, Canada on the ship “Montcalm” and arrived on August 17, 1935. They completed their trip to Saskatchewan by train and then by horse and wagon to their new home on the flats. Anna started her own life at the age of 15 years old. She married Joseph Stopera and together they started farming. Son Earl (Olympia) was born into their family. God called Joe home leaving Anna a young widow and mother. Anna met and married Peter Kamentz adding John (Charlene) and daughter Joyce Ackerschott (Ingo) to her family. She continued grain farming and with Peter they also raised cattle and turkeys. During this time they built a house close to Tuffnell. God called Peter home leaving Anna to again redirect her life. During this stage of her life, Anna became a darn good cook. She worked at reunning a pub and handling the workings of a hotel in Bankend. She really enjoyed working with people. By marrying George Fennuk she started a new phase of her life which included building a new house in Foam Lake. Together they enjoyed travelling Canada. They loved fishing, gardening, picking berries and looking for mushrooms. Playing cards and socializing was a huge part of their lives. Anyone who has played cards with Anna knows her as the “no trump” bidding lady. Lady Luck was always with Anna. Anna became a caregiver at a very early age. She was still living in Poland when she willingly helped her blind grandmother with her daily tasks. Each of Anna’s husbands received tender care and attention. Anna brought her mother into her home to give her care. She was also a great help to her sister-in-law Mary Kamentz. Anna was gifted with the ability to help people - giving countless ideas to help make life easier or just better. She was still giving gardening and canning ideas from the retirement home. We will miss that ready source of knowledge. Anna loved people. She was so happy when they came to visit her. She especially cherished her grandchildren - Ivan Wier, Melanie (Claude) Cherhorsky, Amy (Glen) Desrochers, April (Gus) Lemoine and her great grandchildren - Kaylee and Jessica Cherhorsky and Kaden and Malek Desrochers. She believed being in the Foam Lake Jubilee Home was the last stop before heaven. “They treat me like a queen!” Heaven is now home for Queen Anna. This was always on Mom’s fridge: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16 Memorial donations in memory of Anna may be made to Jubilee Nuring Home Activity Fund, Foam Lake, SK or to a charity of ones choice
