Obituary
John Panasiuk was born on April 28, 1932. His parents, Andrew & Mary Panasiuk, grandparents Maxim & Helen, his siblings Matt, Anne, and Nora immigrated from Dublin, Poland, on the SS Regina in April of 1927. On SE-24-34-11-W2, his parents built a home. On this homestead, John’s sisters Mary & Eva were born, and finally John. They lived there until 1936 when they moved into their newly built home on Section 13-34-11-W2. John farmed alongside with his father, eventually taking over. He attended McKinley School until he was 14yrs old, having to leave to take over the farm when his dad fell ill. In the winter months, John drove bombardier near Ilford, Manitoba, providing supplies to northern reserves and the radar line. He also provided transportation for surveyors of the early mining town which eventually came to be known as Thompson, MB. He also worked some winters in Ontario at a service station and at Cockshutt and Massey manufacturing plants. In October of 1960 at a Halloween dance, John found the love of his life, Ileen Carleton. They were married October 20 th , 1961, for 59 happy years. Their first son, Dean, was born August 16, 1962, then son, Kelly, May 20, 1966. John & Ileen loved to travel. They visited Hawaii, and later toured the western provinces in their motorhome. Retirement came in 2000, at which time they moved to Wadena. John was an active member of his community. He was the first president of the Kuroki Wildlife Federation from 1974-1979. During those years he instructed hunter safety, instructed water skiing, constructed the boat launch and booth as well as many other activities. He was councilor for the RM of Sasman from 1981-1997. During his time on council and as a representative for the Sasman area, he was an essential part in the creation of the Pleasantview Care Home in Wadena which he eventually became a resident of in 2018. John had many passions in life. He loved the outdoors, his dogs, hunting, fishing, reading history books, spending time at their cabin at Fishing Lake, watching their grandchildren grow (spoiling themevery minute he could), and taking thousands of pictures & videos of it all. He loved farming alongside his two sons and was so very proud to see all his grandchildren continue his farming legacy. He was a kind, funny, sweet man, and will be deeply missed by all. John leaves to mourn his wife, Ileen; his son Dean (Darla), grandchildren Dillon and Dallas; and son Kelly (Tracy) and grandchildren Logan and Amy; sister Nora (Cliff) Greene. John’s family extends their sincere gratitude to all the doctors and nurses at Wadena Hospitaland Pleasantview Care Home for all their dedicated care and attention to his well-being. A special thank you to the activity staff at Pleasantview Care Home for taking John on a tour to watch his family harvest one last crop. Your compassion meant the world to him. Thank you to friends and family for your kindness during our time of grief, for monetary donations, the many meals, beautiful flowers, and kind words of sympathy. A Private Family Funeral Service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of John may be made to Pleasant View Care Home Auxiliary Fund, Wadena, SK
