Obituary
Robert “Chester” Minhinnick was born on the NE S7 – T32 – R8 – W2 on September 11, 1924 to Chester and May Minhinnick. He was the fourth of five children. Chester was raised on the family farm and received his education at Chain of Lakes School, where he completed his grade 10. Chester helped on the family farm where he eventually took over the farm. He went from farming a 1⁄4 section, which wasn’t paid for, to owning 24 quarters of grain and pasture land, which was quite an accomplishment, for a man of his era, during the early 80’s and 90’s when farming was a struggle for many. Chester bought his first 1⁄2 section of land in 1944 for $1200, that he paid for with a $200 down payment, earned by trapping weasels. In a span of 95 years, Chester witnessed an evolution in farming, from using horses to operating four-wheel drive tractors with air conditioning. He always had a mixed farm of livestock and grain. Chester’s work ethic was “hard work never killed anybody”. That is what he believed and lived most of his days by, until the last few years when health issues forced him to slow down. This work ethic was instilled into his children. On July 1, 1965, Chester married Kathleen Graham. Chester and Kathleen made their life together on the family farm. To this union 5 children were born, son Dale; daughters, Crystal, Candace, Cindy and Carmen. His family grew to include 16 grandchildren. Chester passed his love of farming onto Dale, as well as the love of country life to his girls, including his grandchildren. He continued to be active in the farm until his last few years, still owning some cattle until the time of his passing. Chester did not spend all of his time farming He was active in several organizations and his community; some of these were, Gymkhana Club, Farm Ownership Board, Agricultural Society, R.M. of Invermay - Councillor, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Committee, 4-H, Recreation Board, United Church, Wildlife Federation and the Canora Progressive Conservative Party as well as the Agricultural Development Fund Board. Chester had a keen interest in politics, sports especially hockey and the CFL. He also enjoyed reading the Western Producer, western novels and books on politics. Chester was proud to be a farmer and to never have worked off the farm. Chester will be lovingly remembered and survived by: his wife of 54 years, Kathleen; son, Dale (Gail); daughters, Crystal (Elliot Maduck), Candace, Cindy (Jason) Babichuk and Carmen (Colby) Wolkowski. Grandchildren: Josh, Cody, Levi andNathaniel Minhinnick; Austin Halushka; Riley, Dakotah, Kennedy and Caitlin Cmoc; Breanne, Orrie, Mikayla and BrendanBabichuk; Grady, Porter and Paisley Wolkowski, as well as his sister Margaret Knight and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
