Obituary
Victoria (Vicky) was born on the family farm January 30, 1929, to Wasyl and Polly Dwerynchuk of Buchanan,Sk. She was the 7th child of eleven children. She attended Mamornitz school. After completing school she worked at a grocery store in Buchanan and earned $30 a month. She traveled to Winnipeg,MB with a friend where she worked as a seamstress in a factory. Victoria met George Smutt through her sister. George was from the Wynyard district and served in WWII. After he returned to Wynyard he decided to move to Oshawa, ON to work in a car factory as a mechanic. On his way through Winnipeg he looked up Victoria. He wrote letters from Oshawa to her and later she joined him. She married George, June 21st, 1950. They honeymooned at Niagara Falls, ON. George worked at the car factory and Victoria worked at a restaurant as a cook. They moved back to Saskatchewan Summer of 1951, and settled south of Sheho, SK where they farmed three quarters of land. They were blessed with 9 children, Russel, Percy, Danny, Sonia, Nick, Edward, Kenneth, Sandra and Marlene. Most of Victoria’s time was spent cooking, gardening, sewing and raising their 9 children. She loved to play cards especially 3spot, playing bingo and visiting with neighbors. Although 9 children kept her busy she found time to help neighbors with butchering chickens for a day. She also helped with cooking at weddings at the Sheho Ukrainian Hall. There was plenty of work but they still welcomed neighbors for card games and having family visit for picking mushrooms. George and Victoria took trips to Regina, Yorkton, Melville and Edmonton to visit family. Victoria moved to Yorkton in fall of 1980, after George passed away spring of 1979. Her door was always open and a cup of coffee or tea was quickly made. She spent time gardening, playing bingo and visiting with family. She knitted and crochet many blankets, pot holders and doilies. She was always willing to look after her grandchildren when need be. She made many Christmas and Easter meals for large family gatherings. Always including Christmas presents or Easter Egg hunts for the grandchildren. She went on a road trip with her eldest daughter Sonia touring some of the United States and visiting some family along the way. Victoria came to live in Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home in Feb. 2015 where she resided until her passing on August 7, 2020.
