Obituary
On September 2nd, 2018 Hans Edward Nygaard age 88 passed away surrounded by his children at Pleasant View Care home in Wadena, Sask. He is now reunited with his wife Diane, his parents and all other loved ones who have passed before him. Ed was born in Wadena, Sask on February 6th, 1930 and lived on the family farm, until his health forced him to move to Waneeda Park Lodge in Sept of 2014 and then into Pleasant View Care Home in April of 2015. Home care allowed him to be in his home for as long as he possibly could and he appreciated the care he was given. Ed, the eldest child of Hans & Minnie Nygaard attended the Wadena schools, completing grade 6 when he went to work on the family farm. Ed was exceptional with numbers, never needing a calculator, he would figure it out in his head. Ed built the road to Wadena from the farm in the mid 60’s. Ed was a grain Farmer most of his life as well as raising cattle, chickens, and thousands of pigs. He remembered his “shipping number” for hogs a long time after he stopped pig farming. He even registered his cattle brand for years after as he just didn’t want to let it go to someone else. He spent some time working at the creamery in Wadena. Ed married Diane on April 19, 1963 the love of his life. Over the years Ed & Diane farmed and raised their children as a partnership to provide for their large family. When Diane passed away in 1983 Ed’s heart was broken but he focused his life on providing for his children and keeping us together. Ed made sure that the family grew up with good values and an abundance of love. In 1990 Ed & Mary started E&M kitchen and operated for 14 years cooking for the residents of the Weneeda Park Lodge. Ed & Mary married on December 11, 1999. They spent 10 plus years taking in and working with young offenders. Ed loved his family deeply and treasured spending as much time as he could with them. He enjoyed his grandchildren and children always wanting to hear about what they were doing, where they had been and what they had seen. He gave a nickname to all his children and even some of the nursing home staff. He insisted on having a shirt with a pocket to keep his pen, cell phone, gum and Kleenex in. When he smoked, cigarettes replaced the gum. He loved the smell of sweet clover and spent his entire life on the family farm. He was so good at fixing things for the tools and resources he had. He enjoyed fishing, hunting with his boys, curling, his pets, tinkering on the farm, coffee row, and was well known for having a cigarette, a coffee, a drink and a beer all going at the same time. He had the warmest smile, was kind, loving, humble, and generous with a heart of gold and he truly believed if everyone lived by the ten commandments the world would be a better place. Edward (Ed) is survived by his wife Mary Heinze Nygaard: 6 children, Son Barry (Tracy), Grandson Austin; Daughter Cheryl (Kelvin) Melnyk, Granddaughters Taylor & Sydney Melnyk; Son Darcy, Grandchildren Ethan, Colby & Ava; Son Randy (Alida), Grandchildren Ashlyn & Griffin; Daughter Marie (Shane) Oro Grandson Kyler Oro; Son Gary (Sheila), Grandchildren Rylan & Aidia: his sisters Minnie McKinnon, Berit Winarski, & Gerda Eskowich as well numerous extended family.
