Mrs Agnes Gliddon passed away in Wynyard,SK at the age of 88. Funeral service for Mrs. Gliddon was held on Monday, March 11th at 1:00 p.m. in the Wynyard United Church, Wynyard, SK. Internemnt to follow in the Pleasantview Cemetery. Agnes was born on March 16, 1924 in the town of Wigtown, County of Dumfries, Scotland. At the age of two Agnes, her parents and sister Sally came to Canada on the ship Moneclar. They landed in Quebec and eventually settled on a farm north of Raymore in the Flanders District. Her brother David was born there in 1928. Agnes took all her schooling at Flanders School. She often helped her father but when her mother passed away in 1940 she had to take over the household duties. As a teenager she enjoyed going to dances and quite often she and her friends would end the night at a local barn still dancing and visiting until the wee hours. Her first job was waitressing and washing dishes at a restaurant in Raymore. After working for a month straight and only making $10 she quit. On Nov. 11, 1947 Agnes married Elmer Gliddon and they started farming in the Edgebrook district. They were blessed with four children, William, Iris, Sandra and Kenneth. They eventually moved to Wynyard where Agnes started her career at Crawford's Foods. She enjoyed working there and made many close friends. An accident at work forced her to take an early retirement in the late 80s. Agnes enjoyed being with people. You could often find her out having coffee with friends, at bingos or just driving around seeing what was new in town. A few years after the loss of her husband Elmer, Agnes moved to Westview Apartments where she happily continued a social life of coffee, cards and organizing events for the tenants. She had ten very happy years there. Agnes passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 6 at Wynyard Hospital at the age of 88. She was predeceased by her parents, David and Mary Birch, daughter Iris Faye in infancy, husband Elmer Gliddon, and sister Sally Garbutt. Agnes will be sadly missed by her son William (Arlene) Gliddon, daughter Sandra Golaiy and son Kenneth Gliddon; three grandchildren, Sheri (Greg) Madsen, Bradly Gliddon and Terri Jacob; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Jeffery Madsen, Gordon Jacob, Adam and Ameer Golaiy; brother David Jr. (Mary) Birch and by her many friends and relatives. Tokens of rememberance may be left in Agnes's name to the Wynyard Golden Acres Lodge Auxillary. Please leave online condolences for the family or sign the guest book through this website.
