Obituary
The family of Katie Linde are saddened to announce of her passing on December 8,2020 at the Wadena Union Hospital where she passed peacefully with family by her side. Katie is survived by her three children Darcy, Bernice (Dennis) Ott, and Donnie (Claudia). Grandchildren Darwin, Daniella (Lyndon), Donalee (Marlon) Olynick and three Great Grandchildren Damian, Dominic, and Owen (her little monkey). Two sisters, Mary Miller, and Pearl (Jim) Partridge, many nieces, nephews and extended family. She will be greatly missed by all. Katie was predeceased by her parents Samual and Helen Kapusitaik, brother John, sister Anne, brother-in-law Louie, and sister-in-law Kay. Katie was born in 1925 in the village of Wasyliw, Province of Rawa Ryska in Western Ukraine to Samuel and Helen Kapustiak. Sam came to Canada in 1927 leaving behind his wife and three children Anne, Katie and unborn son John. In 1934, Katie, her mother Helen and siblings made the journey to Canada arriving by boat to Quebec and then travelled by train to Wadena, Saskatchewan where Sam was there waiting with the horse and wagon to take them to the homestead he built while away from his family. Mary and Pearl were then born six years later. Katie went to Westport School after she arrived from the Ukraine. She started school unable to speak any English but did amazing while learning the language and education in a short period. In June of 1945, Katie married Chester Linde where they grain and cattle farmed NE of Wadena and raised three children Darcy, Bernice, and Donnie. Katie was never scared of hard work where she would milk cows daily, grow a huge garden, and can the fruits of her labour. Katie worked and lived on the farm for many years until moving into Wadena to care for her father Sam. While living in Wadena, she worked at the Wadena Union Hospital in housekeeping and was a very active member in the Ukrainian Catholic Church well into her later years. Katie lived in her own home until November 25,2020 where she entered the hospital and stayed until her passing. She will be remembered in so many ways. Her love of cooking, gardening, making THE BEST perogies and cabbage rolls and being able to provide for her family and friends was her biggest joys and accomplishments. We will love you forever and always, rest in peace. A Private Family Funeral Service will be held due to COVID-19
