Obituary
Elizabeth passed away peacefully on February 19, 2015 at Royal University Hospital with her family at her side at the age of 77. Elizabeth was born in Wishart, SK on March 24, 1937 to Harry and Mary (Maksymtyz) Panchuk. She attended all eight school years at Honey Bank School. She walked to Honey Bank two and a half miles cross country. Elizabeth was the second oldest in the Panchuk family. Elizabeth met the love of her life; James Shewchuk and they were married on June 14, 1954. Together they lived on the family farm northwest of Wishart. Elizabeth briefly worked at Crawford Foods and for a short time was a foster parent. The majority of her working years were devoted to the farm. Elizabeth and James were blessed with three children. Kenneth, Cynthia and Gary. Elizabeth was a devoted wife, mother, Baba and a warm and loving woman. Elizabeth loved to play radio bingo, attend Muskowekwan bingo with her sister Millie, play cards (three spot was her favorite), knit, make perogies for all of her family and for people across Canada, and make dill pickles. She was an awesome cook. She would make a meal and make sure there was enough food so that no one would go home hungry. The family would always spend Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving at the farm; she didn't like to leave her farm. The farm was her pride and joy. She was a master at creating all the traditional Ukrainian dishes for the holidays and we all looked forward to getting together for the great feasts at "Baba's" house. Her favorite job during harvest was to haul grain and she loved to burn stubble. When one came to her house she always had a joke to show you on paper or something to read in her senior papers. She was a devoted member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church. She loved company and always had coffee on. Elizabeth spent many hours outside; she loved making ridges to drain water, cutting grass, weeding her garden and would go out to the bush to pick mushrooms in her secret spots. She took up hunting after the age of 60 years old; she shot skunks, magpies, raccoons and squirrels. Elizabeth's frog collection, which started out as a joke on Christmas of 1969, has now reached to over 200. She was known as being a bit of a "trickster" and always enjoyed April Fool's Day and Halloween. Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children: Ken (Norine Gudnason); Cynthia (Ronald Kachur) and Gary (Lisa Lalach). Grandchildren Joanne (Derek Riddel), Tracey (Nathan Laturnas), Jody (Natasha Baziuk), Carlyn (Tyler), Kendra (Steve), Chelsey (Nathan Fontaine) and Kyle. Great grandchildren Drayden & Daylen Riddel, Shevy, Ferrari & Porshia Kachur. By her brothers Sylvester (Hilda), Orest (Marg), sister Mildred (Gerry) Wolitski, step-sister Patricia Kostiuk and sister-in-law Elora Panchuk; brothers-in-law Andy Shewchuk & Steve Shewchuk & sister-in-law Marj Jeworski; and numerous nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents Harry (1949), Mary (2004), step-father Harry Fedoryshyn (1991), husband James (1997), daughter Mary (1960), brother Bill (2006), step-sister Helen Fedoryshyn (1953) & nephew Christopher Panchuk (1985), parents-in-law Mike & Helen Shewchuk, brothers-in-law John, Joe, Pete, Matt and sister-in-law Vicki. She truly loved and was very proud of all her family and their accomplishments. We thank God for blessing us with her gentle soul, her wisdom and her unconditional love and thank God for the gift of our Mother, Baba, sister, Great Baba Lizzy and friend. We love you and know that you are now at peace.
