Felix Holt Funeral Service Livestream-Please click here Our beloved Father, Father-in-law, and Grandfather, Asbjorn Felix, was born August 7, 1914 to Nanny and Ole Holt in Stokke, Norway. A baby brother had been born one year earlier in Stokke, Norway, but passed away as an infant. Felix and his mother Nanny, sailed from Oslo, Norway on the ship, Fredrick VIII in July 1915, during World War I to New York. They went by train to Wadena, Sask, arriving on Felix’s 1st birthday. They joined Felix’s dad, Ole, who had homesteaded a year earlier in the Rose Valley district. He was raised with two sisters, Evelyn Marie born in 1918, Esther Margaret born in 1920 as well as Liv Martinusson. Felix attended West Shore School and completed grade 9. He and his family were active members of Nut Lake Lutheran Church, which was a half a mile south of the farm. Felix farmed with his dad, and in 1938 he bought his first quarter section of land. There was a lot of hard work on the farm those days, milking many cows, feeding all the animals, pitching hay with a fork, stooking and hauling bundles, digging stones with a shovel or dynamiting them and pulling them out with a team of horses. Land clearing was done with a grub hoe and axe, logging chains and a team of horses to help pull the trees and stumps out. In 1948, Felix bought his first combine. The first tractor he purchased was a John Deere Model G. Also, another tractor was purchased- a John Deere Model AR. The farm became mechanized as the years went by. Only one team of horses was left on the farm to rake hay and haul out manure. His first truck was 1948 Dodge one-ton. On November 13, 1943, Felix married Ebba Petersen. When Ebba passed away, July 25, 2016, they had been married 72 years. They made their home with Felix’s parents on their farm in the West Shore District. Five children were born to this union, Mavis, Rodger, James (Jim), Gloria and Grace. In 1971, Felix and Ebba move to Rose Valley, along with his parents. Felix still helped their son and his wife on the farm during busy seasons. He was a jack of all trades. He had a certificate in welding, he took a John Deere course, helped build houses, made furniture and was very mechanical. Felix was a man of great faith and integrity, had a strong work ethic, was a good compassionate friend to all, a true gentleman, as well as a great host. He was very involved in AA and throughout the years, his greatest passion was to help others to overcome their addiction, which he continued doing until he was well over 100 years old. Some of Felix’s interests and hobbies were playing the guitar and singing, even singing on the radio a few times and playing for dances, carpentry, collecting coins, reading and collecting articles and stories to do with detectives, the RCMP and pilots; fishing, hunting, playing cards, growing an amazing strawberry patch and huge, beautiful tomatoes. Felix was predeceased by his parents Ole and Nanny Holt; his wife Ebba; his sisters Evelyn (Ivan) Popoff, Esther Porter and Liv (Adrian) Norberg; infant brother; son-in-law Vladimir Holub; daughter-in-law Kathy Holt; and nephew Bruce Porter.
