Funeral arrangements for Kathy are pending at this time, please check back. Kathy Scheel was born on Octobe 4, 1923 in Saschiz, Romania where she as also educated. In school she learned to knit and crochet along with her regular studies. From this knowledge, she made many beautiful afghans, treasured by many people. Kathy met John Ewert in her hometown and they were planning to marry when war erupted in 1941 and John was conscripted to serve in Romania army. Kathy was sent to a work camp in Siberia where she endured many hardships; including being trapped underground in one of the five coal mine cave-ins that occurred while she was working underground. The injuries that she received in the cave-in caused her much pain right up until her passing. Through all this, Kathy and John’s love for each other didn’t waiver although they were apart. In 1952, John immigrated to Canada and found employment on a farm near Quill Lake, and later at the forestry farm in Saskatoon. Four years later Kathy received her passport and in 1963, 20 years later, John and Kathy were married in Pasweign where John had purchased a farm. A few years later they were in a terrible motor vehicle accident and they had to move to Regina for 13 years so John could attend physiotherapy. Kathy worked at whatever jobs were available to her. In 1970, they returned to the farm by Pasweign and in 1978 they sold the farm and moved to Wadena. Kathy was well known for her beautiful flowers and vegetable gardens for which she received many awards from the Horticultural Society, which she belonged to gardening, helped both John and Kathy heal, both physically and emotionally. On December 23, 2005 John passed away and Kathy moved into Weneeda Park Lodge where she resided until the fall of 2018. In October she moved into Pleasantview Care Home where she passed away on December 22, 2018. Kathy was a sweet, caring little lady who had hard feeling for no one and love everyone; especially children. She will be missed.
