Obituary
Violet Panasiuk was born in Dowhalinka, Wolyn, Ukraine to Damian and Marie Panasiuk on January 20, 1920. Two weeks after Violet was born her father died. Her mother moved back to live with her parents and later remarried and had a daughter, Anastazia. Violet's mom died when she was 7 years old. She was back and forth between grandparents and later lived with her uncle, Paul Panasiuk. In 1927, Violet's grandparents, on her mothers side, came to Canada. In September 1938, she came to Canada with her uncle Paul, aunty Barbara and cousin Melissa, to be with her Baba, Dido, uncle Andrew Panasiuk family and Mike & Kathryn Rudishyn family. On March 5, 1940, she married John Sawchuk. They farmed in the Gardenia district, north of Quill Lake, SK. They had two children Jean and William (Bill). In 1951, John and Violet bought a half section of land, one mile north of Clair, SK, where Bill and Darlene still reside. Violet was always interested in the farm and was still asking, "Where we were seeding?" and "What was the price of grain?". John passed away April 29, 1969. In November 1970, she remarried to Matthew Cherry of Toronto, ON. She adapted to city life and enjoyed it very much, she could go shopping everyday. In 1981, Matthew passed away and she continued to live there and look after their apartment block until 1983. She then moved to Vancouver, BC to be with her uncle Paul again. In July 1985, she married Mike Hryciuk. In 1992, Mike passed away. Baba was very lonesome. Her grandson, Wally Sawchuk, had just graduated from University, so he went to live with Baba and got a job there, teaching school. In 1999, Violet moved back to Saskatoon, SK to be closer to the rest of her family. She moved into Illarion Residence just across the road from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which she attended regularly. She belonged to the Ladies Church organization and enjoyed making cabbage rolls and perogies for the club. In October 2012, she moved into St. Joseph's Nursing Home. She passed away at Royal University Hospital, in Saskatoon, on March 1, 2015. She was very proud of all her family. Violet leaves to mourn her daughter Jean (Mike) Chmarney of Humboldt, SK and family; Greg (Anna) Bobryk of Melville, SK and Terry Bobryk of Warman, SK and his children Michael, Andrew, Alyssa and Kristina. Her son William (Darlene) Sawchuk of Clair, SK and family; Wally (Danine) Sawchuk of Coquitlam, BC and their son Daylen, Lori (Shawn) Burnett of North Battleford, SK and their daughters Bailey and Kylie, and Dean (Tracy) Sawchuk of Quill Lake, SK and their sons Owen and Carter. Violet was predeceased by her son-in-law Harry Bobryk in 1980, and her parents Damian and Marie Panasiuk.
