Obituary
A memorial service will be held at a later date, at the Quill Lake Cemetery. Brenda was born in Kindersley Union Hospital June 5, 1954 to Elywn and Florence Hummel. She attended school in Mantario until Grade 6, when the Mantario School was closed. Brenda continued her education in Eatonia, graduating in 1972.
Out of high school Brenda attended Marvel Hair in Saskatoon in 1973. After completion of the cosmetology course Brenda felt she wanted to pursue other ventures. From 1974 to 76 she worked in the accounting department of Witfield Auto in Kindersley.
Brenda's father had been a Councillor of the R.M. of Chesterfield for many years and he encouraged her to pursue a career in Local government administration. Brenda worked and trained with Mr. Hubble in the R.M. of Kindersley to obtain Local Government "C" certificate.
Brenda started her first secretary position with The R.M. of Tisdale in 1979. Her parents were very concerned about Brenda moving that far from home. At that time Highway 41 from Wakaw to Saskatoon did not exist, and they had to travel around by ST. Louis or Prince Albert to get to Tisdale. Brenda's parents spent a few summers camping at Tobin Lake to be able to spend time with her.
In the spring of 1982 Brenda resigned from the R.M. of Tisdale and started that fall at the R.M of Connaught, where she worked until 1992.
Brenda married Ernest Strembicki in October 1990. After Ernie's death in 1991 Brenda was hired by the R.M. of Laird at Waldheim, where she worked until 2002. Brenda and Bob had been friends for many years and they were married on June 8, 2002. This started a new chapter in her life. Brenda was so happy to find someone that she felt was her soul mate. Brenda took a job at the school division in Tisdale, then transferred to Melfort with the Northeast school Division after deciding she wanted to be back in Wadena with Bob full time.
Brenda worked at the R.M. of Invermay for close to a year, then went to work for the Horizon School Division in Wadena where she worked until retirement.
Besides her family and friends Brenda's love for her dogs was endless. In fact Brenda first dog went everywhere with her. If you told Brenda that she could not bring her dog, there was a good chance that Brenda would not come either.
Another story heard but not confirmed is that on a long trip home from Alberta, a hotel room was rented because the dog was tired and needed to rest. Brenda and Bob were together for 13 years and happily married for 2 weeks short of 12 years.
Brenda was taken from us on May 22, 2014 at a young age of 59 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Ernie Strembicki, her parents Elywn and Florence Hummel and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. Brenda will be lovingly remember and sadley missed by her husband John Robert Norris and her dog Shep. She is also survived by her two brothers: David and Keith Hummel, and her sister Shelley Heckbert, and their families.
