In Lieu of flowers donations in memory of Orest may be made to the Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home Auxiliary, Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. Orest was born September 24, 1931 to Mike and Annie Slowski. He was raised on the family farm near Sheho along with his other ten brothers and sisters. After graduating from high school he attended Normal School in Moose Jaw. On February 6, 1954 he married Eugenia Kopchuk and together they raised two sons, Blair and Bryan. After completing Normal School, he began his teaching career in McNabb and then to Tuffnell. From Tuffnell the family moved to Saskatoon for one year where he attended the University of Saskatchewan. He continued with his education until he received his Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts Degree. From Saskatoon the family moved to Battleford, Wynyard (where he became Vice Principal in 1966) and finally to Foam Lake where he retired. During his teaching years he also grain farmed the land they owned by Sheho. Orest volunteered on many boards, Wynyard Town Council, Foam Lake Church Board and he was very involved in the investment clubs in Wynyard and Foam Lake. Orest loved to watch football and spent many years watching the high school football teams and the Rider games. He coached baseball in Wynyard. Orest was very fond of coffee row and was always ready for a debate, even if not everyone at the table was ready for one. Orest enjoyed many outdoor activities: hunting ducks, geese, deer, moose and elk, fishing, golfing, bird watching, snowmobiling, quadding, gardening, drives in the country. The family enjoyed camping trips each summer and grandchildren only added to the fun. Orest liked to have firepits and bushpies in the back yard. In his retirement years he took up building patio furniture and many of these sets are still found around the area. Orest and Eugenia travelled to Hawaii, B.C., Ontario and Arizona during their retirement years. Orest was an avid learner, if he didn’t know how to do something he would figure it out. Orest passed away January 13th due to complications from Parkinsons. Orest is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eugenia, sons Blair (Monica) Jeffrey & Kyle, Bryan (Donna), sister-in-law Caroline Kopchuk, brother Fred, sisters Ann and Adella. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers George, John, Matt, Bill and sisters Mary, Elsie and Iris. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing to may make donations in Orests memory to the Jubilee Care Home Auxilary in Foam Lake.
