Prayer Service 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 The Chapel of Narfason's Narfason's Funeral Chapel Wynyard, Saskatchewan Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church Wynyard, Saskatchewan Shirley Marie Chorneyko (nee McCormick) of Wynyard, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Saturday, February 27. Mom was born in Edmonton, Alberta on May 9, 1930 to Dougal and Genevieve McCormick. She grew up and attended school in Wapella, Saskatchewan. After graduation she attended Normal School receiving her teacher’s certificate and taught for many years, predominantly in Northern Manitoba. Mom was working for Social Services in Yorkton, Saskatchewan when she met Dad. They wed in 1961 and a year later moved to Wynyard, Saskatchewan where they have resided since. Mom committed the next years of her life raising us children. She was also a dedicated community supporter volunteering and assisting at/for various organizations and events. Up until recent months, Mom continued playing piano at Golden Acres and attending CWL meetings. She was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League and Golden Acres Auxiliary and also served as a member of the Housing Authority for over 20 years, many of those as Chair. Very few people knew about Mom’s artistic abilities – music, writing, knitting and various other handicrafts. Mom was very thankful for the 18 winters her and dad spent in Arizona as well as for her long, healthy life. Mom was predeceased by her sister Ellen McPhee; nephew Barry McPhee; brothers-in-law Oleh and Yron Chorneyko and Dave McPhee; sister-in-laws Anne, Ann and Dorothy Chorneyko. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Anys (Ace); children Andrea (Tom Howe) – Matthew, Cole, Austin Briscoe and Allegra, Tammara Howe; Byron – Lucas Ness; Jason; Orrin (Patty) – Roman, Annaka, Michael; Lara (Derek Morrow) – Jessica, Justin, Amy Olynick and Blaze, Boston Morrow; Zane (Byeong Mi); brother and sister-in-law Glenn and Ethel McCormick; brother-in-law Ihor Chorneyko. She will also be sadly missed by many nephews, nieces and extended family and friends.
