Prayer Service 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2017 Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church Sheho church on the Hill Sheho, Saskatchewan Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2017 Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church Sheho church on the Hill Sheho, Saskatchewan Hazel Jane Sawchuk, was born November 10, 1944 to Steven and Mary Mocknowed. Hazel along with her siblings: Vickie, Orest, Willie, Gus, Gordon, & Denise, lived and worked on the family farm in the Theodore area. In 1962 Hazel wed Carl Sawchuk Jr. and they held an elaborate two day wedding celebration in the same place that is their current homestead in Sheho. Hazel and Carl built a beautiful life together. They were blessed with five children: Scott, Tracey, Shannon, Warren & Cory. As their children grew, so did their family. Thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren entered their life, whom they both love whole heartedly. Throughout her life, everything Hazel did was done with great passion and pride. She raised her children, had dairy cattle and many other animals she tended to, maintained a yard with rock and vegetable gardens that belonged in magazines. The garden was where you could find Hazel in the early hours of the morning, gathering endless vegetables and flowers for the Farmers Market in Fort Qu'Apelle where people raced to their table to buy their produce which was always packed, washed and ready to eat. As her kids grew she was involved in the local 4-H club, the Ukranian Dance Group, and participated in The Sheho Sports Day and other local rodeo events. In addition to all this hard work she cooked at the Six Pack Restaurant in Foam Lake for some time. Hazel enjoyed dancing, cooking, playing cards. She loved to laugh and have a good time with her family and friends; always had a coffee, meal, snack or beverage for anyone who stopped in. Hazel had a true passion for her grass and flowers. This is one of the main reasons for the Sawchuk Farm being known as a local attraction where numerous people came to take family and wedding pictures. Hazel was predeceased by her parents; Steven and Mary, son; Warren, sister; Vickie. After a brief illness, Hazel passed away on July 24th in Yorkton hospital. Hazel was a beautiful soul who’s smile and infectious personality will be lovingly remembered by Carl, her husband of 55 years, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.
