Obituary
Frank (Petequakanape ‒ Thunder Feather) passed away peacefully on March 11, 2019 at his home on Fishing Lake First Nation. He was the third child born to Henry and Marjorie Kayseass who predeceased him. Frank was very active throughout his life ‒ in the community and in his work. He was a carpenter, a Housing Coordinator, spent countless hours maintaining the roads, lands and grasslands of Fishing Lake First Nation, was involved in the initial Specific Land Claims (SLC) Committee for his First Nation. A memory that he liked to share about the SLC work was his adventure to Ottawa and, like many of his stories, this was a story made for television. Frank was a long-time farmer, raising poultry and cattle ‒ beginning with “one red-faced cow” (which he sold for another breed because he didn’t like the look) to a growing herd. He was well-known for his gardening exploits and abundant harvests. He was a self-sufficient, determined, kind man of many skills and talents. Frank cherished a life free from addictions, alcohol and drugs. He was an active member of the AA Program since May 9, 1995, living the values of the program and sharing his story to many people throughout the province and beyond. He provided as much support as he received from his AA community, resulting in many life-long friendships through the meetings and the weekend old-time dancing. He was fortunate enough to attend an AA Annual Gathering in New York City. While in NYC, among the many tours he experienced, Frank saw the city from a boat on the Hudson River and walked around the Ground Zero site. He said that he never felt alone in his home or in his travels because the “Big Guy” was always with him. He was bold and gentle in sharing his faith and life lessons. Father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Frank lived life to the fullest of his capacity. Ball tournaments, sports days, auction sales and community gatherings will never be the same without him. Frank was the family ‘library’ and historian ‒ a philosopher. He would spend countless hours sharing stories about family and community history, amazing people with his ability to detail the stories with exact dates, times, and weather conditions. We will greatly miss his wisdom but will strive carry his stories and memories onward. Frank will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community members. Left to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life are his son Francis (Stephanie) Desjarlais, daughters Rhonda and Denise Natowcappo. He is also survived by his siblings George (Millie) Kayseas, Marjorie Paquachan, Ella, Enola and Dennis (Annette) Kayseas. He also leaves to mourn numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and other loving family members and friends in and outside his home community. Frank is predeceased by his parents Henry and Marjorie (Kittiekaywinnie) Kayseass, sisters Rose-Mary Kayseass and Jean Crow-Buffalo, brothers Jerry and Robert Kayseass, and many close family and friends.
