Obituary
Eli Kolybaba was born on August 2, 1915 on the family farm near Sheho, SK. He was the second child of Kost and Dokia (Gruntey) Kolybaba. They moved south of Foam Lake when Eli was two. Eli was joined in marriage to Anne Woitas on October 24, 1940 at St. Onufrey church, Section 33-28-11. Eli started his farming career early and he attended Hazel School but only during the spring and summer when he could walk barefooted. As he got older he had more responsibilities on the farm but also went out to work; building the MacBay Road with his horses and wagon. When he was 13, Eli's dad didn't come home i ti,e for the beginning of seeding. Eli fitted the horse team and set out to do the job on his own. He loved animals, especially his horses. Breaking horses was his passion. Taking a wild animal and taming them to eat out of his hand gave him a sense of accomplishment. He and Anne continued to farm until their auction sale in August 2007. Farming was never far from Eli's thoughts; it was always the first thing he would discuss with Michael and Colin. His love of farming was overshadowed only by his love of his family. Eli and Anne were married for 73 years and he was very proud of his children. He took his grandsons into town for their first pool game, had conversations about his childhood and played cards with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eli was a good neighbour and was always willing to help. He was a true friend who will be sadly missed by his companions. He had a strong and unwavering faith in God and lived his life accordingly. He was dedicated o his church family as well and was Palamar in St. Onufrey and also for St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic church in Foam Lake for many years.
