Obituary
Joanne Marie Fedirko was born on August 12th, 1967, in Outlook, Saskatchewan, to John and Irene Fedirko. She was to be the big sister to eight other siblings that were to follow. She was a smart, inquisitive, toddler who had a love of books and learning. Following a terminal diagnosis of six months with a malignant brain tumor, Joanne would prove her resilience throughout her life and forever be known as the Fedirko family miracle. Despite her struggles growing up, Joanne played an integral role in the family. She maintained her big sister status by leading the other scared children to the bathroom at night without complaint or sneaking them to do puzzles when they were supposed to be sleeping. On family walks in the pasture to look for ants, Joanne was always the rock turner. A job she gladly took on. Despite her disabilities growing up, Joanne was not seen as any different to any other child in the family. She played an important part. Her “favorite” family jobs included weeding the garden, setting the table, sweeping the floors, and folding the laundry. She was also a master masseuse when Mom needed a spa treatment! Writing was Joanne’s gift and favourite past-time. Usually the subject of her stories was the irritations her siblings caused her, but they didn’t mind. She also enjoyed writing letters to her aunts and uncles regarding the daily comings and goings of our family life. Joanne had a strong, stubborn side, that could only be tempered by her brother-in-law, Eddy’s soft persuasion. I think this was because he was her favourite dance partner, even later in life, when she became wheel-chair bound. We would be remiss if we failed to mention the role that Joanne’s faith played in her life. She was a strong prayer warrior, whose vocal prayers and songs left an eternal mark on our world. In fact, her very presence was a testimony to the important role that all those with disabilities play in the family and community. Joanne accepted her struggles without complaint until her last breath when her purpose on this earth was completed. Joanne was predeceased by her father John (2016). She is survived by her mother (Irene), 5 sisters and three brothers, Debora (Edward) Zimroz, Jackie (Dwight) Guy, Mark Fedirko, Matthew (Tina) Fedirko, Judy (Rob) Davis, Cindy (Mike) Giroux, Monica (Dennis) Corcoran, Michael (Mallory) Fedirko, and 26 nephews and nieces. On March 2nd, 2020, Joanne left this world, with her Mom and brother Michael by her side, to be with her two father’s in heaven, John, and her eternal Father who we are sure said, “Well done, good and faithful servant”. Donations in memory of Joanne may be made to St. Mary's Queen of Poland Roman Catholic Church Box 64, Fosston, Sk S0E 0V0
