Funeral Mass: Saturday, August 15, 2015 10:00 a.m. Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wynyard, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church and/or Golden Acres Ladies Auxiliary. Mike was born on the farm near Wishart, Saskatchewan to Sophie and Nick Danchuk. He attended Round Plains School. As a young man of 17, he worked on the C.N. Railway before leaving for a trucking job in Kitimat, B.C., where he worked on a major highway project, Nechako Reservoir. He returned home every harvest to help his dad on the farm and this is how he met the love of his life, Olga. He took her for a "button popping butterfly" at a Saturday night dance. With a wink and a smile that still holds a place in her heart, he said, "you are sewing those back on!", and the rest is history. Mike continued his work in B.C. until he and Olga were married in 1959. He took pride in his jobs including farming, custodial work at the high school, banks, post office, and town building, as well as driving the Special Services Bus and Meals on Wheels with the Town of Wynyard. He always had a smile and a joke for anyone who would listen. Mike loved hunting, cribbage, 3-spot, bowling, gardening, horse races, fishing, combining with Harcus, and visiting with friends and family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Mike was the kind of man who would happily give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was a volunteer fire fighter for 27 years and was also an Arena Board Member. He spent many hours doing good deeds for numerous members of the community, often enlisting the help of his children. Mike is survived by his loving wife Olga, children Glenda (Scot), Janice, Carol (Dan), Michael (Hélne), Terry (Kathy), and David (Jody); Grandchildren Amanda (David), Brooklynn, Kathryn, Robyn, Michael (Tanya), Nikki (Aaron), David (Mikayla), Mishka, Brennah, Alexy, Nikolah, Eric, Bryson, and Jamie; Great-grandchildren Isla, Gavin, Aizik, Kersten, Dayton, and Ileigh; Brother Bill, Sister Margaret; In-laws Betty Danchuk, Victor Malinowski, Arlene (Victor), Denise (Ron); aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Nick and Sophie, siblings Anna, John, Joseph, Maria, Raymond, Harold, Lillian, Olive, Beatrice, Irene, Phyllis; Father-in-law Nick, Mother-in-law Helen, Sister-in-law Liz, and Brother-in-law Alvin. Honorary pallbearers are Mike's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mike's final resting place will be at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
