On Thursday, February 21, 2013, we said goodbye to our dear aunt, great-aunt, and friend. While it was, and is, hard to let her go, she left knowing that she had touched many lives during her 91 years. Mary Minnie Bobinski was born on April 12, 1921, the youngest of eight children to Peter and Mary (Terick) Bobinski at Makinak, Manitoba. In 1924, the family moved to Ridgedale, Saskatchewan, to a farm two and a half miles southwest of there. Aunt Min attended school in Ridgedale and in September 1939, went to work in Saskatoon to housekeep for Doctor Harringtons family. In March 1943, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was sent to Rockcliffe, Ontario, for Basic Training and then to Toronto to take a clerical course. Her first posting was to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and then off to Claresholm, Alberta, then to Vancouver, British Columbia, then to Tofino, British Columbia, and finally back to Vancouver. She got her discharge in June 1946, and in the fall, she went to Saskatoon Technical School to take a secretarial course. Then in May 1947, she accepted a job with Monarch Life Assurance Company. When opportunity knocked for Aunt Min in 1972, she accepted a transfer to Vancouver to become the head secretary of the company branch which is now known as Manulife Financial where she worked until her retirement in April 1986. In 1988, she moved to Wadena along with her brother, Peter, to help him out and to be close to another brother, William. In 2004, she moved into Weneeda Park Lodge where she made many friends and in 2011, she resided at Pleasant View Care Home until her passing. Aunt Min loved life and lived it to the fullest. She wasnt one to sit at home. She spent many of her summer holidays out at Ridgedale visiting with her family and to enjoy the rural life. For her winter holidays, she went on many warm vacations with Bill and Liz. Once she retired she took up many of her hobbies that were put on hold because of work. She took great pride in her flower garden and when winter came you could find her either knitting, sewing, crocheting, or working on her petit point and needlepoint pictures. She also enjoyed a good game of cards and doing a word jumble or crossword from the Star-Phoenix. She also kept up on the news, not only in Saskatchewan but around the world. She was predeceased by her sisters: Annie Bobinski, Josie Scammell; and by her brothers: John, Mike, Joe, Peter, and William. Aunt Min leaves to mourn all her nieces and nephews, her great- nieces and great-nephews.
