Obituary of Edna Leffler Edna Leffler, late of Jansen, passed away peacefully at Central Parkland Lodge on January 31, 2020 at the age of 91. Edna will be greatly missed by her children: Brian (Vivian) and Brian’s family: Lisa (Rob) and family: Shayna, Kaylin, Baylee, Jacob, Kaitlyn; Shane (Ashley) and family: Haley, Mia, Amelia; Nadine (Danny) and family: Shen and Brady; Mike (Randi) and family: Nixon and Des; Sharleen (Andy) and family: Melissa (Mike) and family: Derek (Sydney) and family: Hudson and Jones; Tyler (Kelsey); Sheldon (Cheryl) and family: Janelle and family: Keira and Kate; Raeanne (Sean); Brendon (Victoria); Darcy (Sandy) and family: Danielle (Brian); Kailee (Trent); sister Linda Paetsch, sister-in-law Imogen Ratke, many nieces and nephews and close friends. Edna was born on April 18, 1928 in Biggar,Sask. She grew up on the family farm South of Dafoe and attended Foote School. She worked at the Jansen Hotel and the restaurant at Foam Lake. Edna also enjoyed playing fastball in her spare time. Edna and John were married July 5, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Esk. They lived on a farm 6 miles North of Jansen. While on the farm, she loved to garden and raised livestock such as cows, pigs, horses, ducks, geese, and chickens. She loved to cook and bake, did canning, made sauerkraut, and made jams. In October 1972, the family farm house was moved to Jansen. Edna planted a garden in town which later expanded to feed our families and other family and friends in Jansen. She was proud of her large cabbage heads, potatoes, tomatoes, and cucumbers that she would grow. She also took pride in having a weedless garden. Edna loved to entertain and when friends and family would come to visit, she made enough food to feed an army! She would always say “clean up all the food so the weather stays nice”. When our family came home for a weekend, Saturday night consisted of numerous games of Smear with the radio always playing Saturday Night Dance Party. Edna was a custodian at the Jansen School for 14 years, retiring in 1991, she cleaned the post office and the R.M. office, she was a news reporter for the local papers, and she babysat. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and watching her soaps on TV. Edna and John loved to travel to various places to play bingo. In 1989 when all of us kids left home, she got her beloved dog Buddy; he was treated just a little bit better than us. Years later, her dog DJ became her constant companion. She loved to watch her family play ball and hockey and travelled everywhere to cheer us on. Edna’s three favorite sports teams were: The Toronto Maple Leafs, The Toronto Blue Jays, and The Riders. Whenever any of Edna’s teams were playing one of our favorite teams, she always wanted to make a bet. If her team won, you were guaranteed a phone call to see what happened to Darcy’s Bruins or Sheldon’s Blackhawks. In March of 2018, Edna moved into Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan. She was so happy and so well cared for by the Staff. Edna was predeceased by her husband, John; her parents, Julia and William Ratke; John’s parents, Alex and Natalia; siblings and in-laws Helen (Gus) Dehr, Alma (Henry) Holfeld, Mary (Bert) Herbers, Alice (Harry) Gier, Bill Ratke, Ernie Ratke, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Elmer Paetsch and Philip (Elsie) Leffler; daughter-in-law Ann Leffler. A Family Graveside Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Edna can be made to the Jansen Community Association or Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan.
