Obituary
Sophie Malakoff 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 Narfason's Funeral Chapel, Wadena, Saskatchewan Interment at the Kylemore Doukhobor Cemetery, Kylemore, Saskatchewan Donations in memory of Sophie may be forwarded to Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation Sophie Elizabeth Malakoff passed away peacefully on the morning of April 3, 2016. Sophie was born to Fred and Jean Kryzanowski on August 10, 1938 on the family farm near Fosston, Sask. She received her education at the Moosehorn #1 school. At an early age Sophie worked in Foam Lake as a domestic helper and later as a clerk at the General Store. While there, she met her husband John. From this union, they were blessed with two children, Connie and Karen. They raised their children on John’s family farm before moving into Kylemore. Sophie was a courageous, strong-willed and independent woman. These characteristics were invaluable with raising her two young children after John’s sudden passing in 1978. While living in Kylemore, Sophie supported her family by working at Ted Early’s greenhouse, the Robinson store, and Marilyn’s Clothing. In 1984 she moved to Wadena where she worked at the liquor store. After twenty years of service, Sophie decided to retire. In 2009 she moved into a condo in Saskatoon and finally into Elim Lodge Retirement Home. Sophie thoroughly enjoyed curling and gardening. In her younger years she participated in many local bonspiels. For Sophie, it wasn’t about winning rather spending time with her friends and socializing. Sophie took great pride in her garden and yard. She was an avid gardener and would always grow her own bedding plants from seed. Some would say she had the nicest looking front yard in Wadena. After moving to Saskatoon, she continued her passion by joining a community garden. Sophie had many hobbies which included Knitting, Crocheting, Crafting and Baking. You could always expect a weekly visit with fresh buns, cookies, and the occasional poppy seed chiffon cake. She also loved spending time with her friends and family and would often be seen out socializing at lunch. Sophie was extremely proud of her grandchildren and rarely missed a birthday or milestone event. Grandma will be dearly missed. Sophie is loved and remembered by her daughters Connie (Kevin) Tisdale SK., Karen (Edwin) Saskatoon, SK., stepsons John (Kamelia) St John’s, NFLD., Nick (Terri) Princeton, BC; Grandchildren Jamie, Nicole, Jeremy, Morgan, Sheldon, Kristy, and Shawna, and her siblings Margaret, Regina, SK., Gerald (Lina) High Prairie, AB. Also celebrating her life are numerous nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents Fred and Jean Kryzanowski, husband John, brother’s Victor and Johnny, brother in law Andrew, and niece Laverne.
