In Loving Memory of Effie Daviduk Effie was born on January 2, 1934 on the Homestead by Invermay. Effie was the oldest of 3 children, born to William and Mary Shinkewski. When Effie was a teenager the family moved to Kuroki and Effie being the only daughter had to quit school to help run the family café in Kuroki. During this time is when she met Mike Daviduk. After a brief courtship they were married on October 19, 1952. Effie and Mike ran a general store at Pikwitonei, , Manitoba for a few years. They moved back to Kuroki to help run the Daviduk family farm. During this time they had four children: Donna, Marion, Michael and Katherine. Effie’s family grew to include 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Effie was very proud of all of her family and really enjoyed her great—grandchildren, hearing all of their stories, accomplishments and spending time with them. Effie enjoyed playing softball, curling, painting and dancing. She was also active in her church and Kuroki Community Club and loved spending time in both Kuroki and Wadena Senior Clubs playing cards. Effie worked very hard on the farm throughout her life. She took pride in all the chores she did, milking cows, gardening and looking after her beautiful flowers. She was a wonderful cook and baker She was always insistent that everyone who visited, left with an overflowing stomach and a care package of goodies. Right up until her passing, she was still making cabbage rolls, perogies and sweets. This fall she took advantage of all the cucumbers and canned many many jars of pickles. After a brief stay in Wadena Hospital, Effie passed away peacefully with family by her side.
