Obituary
In Loving Memory of Darlene Gilbertson Darlene Elaine (King) Gilbertson was born on October 14, 1928, to Harry and Mildred King at Eston, Saskatchewan. She was the second daughter of five children; Eunice, Darlene, Beryl, Wayne (Bud) and William (Bill). The King family moved back to the family farm at Quill Lake in spring of 1929. Darlene took all of her schooling at Quill Lake School, then stayed home for another 6 months after graduation to help her mom with her new baby brother Bill! Then she was off to Winnipeg to enter nurses training at the Winnipeg General Hospital. She graduated from there in 1950 with her nursing degree. She said she was glad she went to school so far away, because it was hard to leave home! Darlene worked in Benito, Manitoba and Duncan B.C., and on a weekend home to visit, she reunited with Richard Alfred Gilbertson (Dick), who was home from WWII. The sparks flew, she moved home, and they married Oct. 24, 1952. During that time, she worked at Quill Lake Hospital and occasionally Watson Hospital, until the hospital closed. Dick and Darlene had 3 children, Bev, Glen and Sharon. They farmed until October 1980, when Dick suddenly passed away. Darlene moved into the home in Quill Lake that they had built together. After Dick's passing, Darlene went back to work with Home Care, took Census, and volunteered for many community functions. She was active in the UCW and the Seniors Club in Quill Lake. In November, 2018, she sold her house and moved to the Heritage Home in Quill Lake where she lived comfortably, until July of 2020, when she moved to Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena. She is survived by: daughter Bev (Bill) Ingram, and their children, Laura (Kurt) and Sam; Adam (Kalli) Ruby, Ross and Eli; Rachel (Shawn), Rayna, Alana, Owen, and Michael; Amanda (Jason) Jayna, Sarah, Nathan, and Rylen; son, Glen (Sylvia), and their children, Scott (Jocelyn), Declan, Sophie, and Nash; Layne (Chantel), Addisyn, Brody and Mia; daughter Sharon (Brian), and their children, Joel (Crystal) Paige, Maddison and Gavin; Jonathan (Sarah), Tylen and Sadie; Evan (Michelle) Lily, Lachlan and Leo.
