Obituary
In Loving Memory of Lynda Jean Pickering Lynda Jean Pickering was born April 30, 1950. Eldest daughter of Sigurdur and Margaret Eyolfson. She grew up in the Leslie district on their family farm. In 1968 she married Rodger Pickering. They had a large chicken farm she helped to run despite her fear of birds. Lynda not only managed the chicken business and farming equipment but would provide all the care to their 3 children. She kept the house running with beautiful homemade meals and treats. If somebody drove in the yard, a bare kitchen could become a feast in a matter of minutes. She loved making and serving pots of coffee and visiting with their beloved neighbours. Lynda gave many kids their first job as chicken catchers. She would bake cookies and cinnamon buns and make mountains of sandwiches for lunch afterward. She ran a tight ship and she loved her crew. Every year mom would butcher chickens and sell fryers. She would often describe people through relation to one of her chicken customers. Lynda could whip up a new outfit in an afternoon if needed. She loved her sewing room full of fabric and notions. From skating costumes to hemming coveralls and patching knees, we all relied on her proficiency with a needle and thread. She spent some time away from the farm while still balancing it all and worked as a care aide for the Jubilee home. She had so many great stories of friendships old and new that formed and grew there. It was a very important part of her life and she was proud of herself for learning something new. Despite being scared to go in that first day she pushed through, becoming many residents favorite. Rodger and Lynda would retire from the farm and move to Moose Jaw in 2006. Lynda cared for Rodger after he suffered a stroke. He passed away in December of 2008. Lynda welcomed many SIAST students to her home and provided room and board. She provided not only meals and goodies but so much love and care. She absolutely treasured those days and her kids. Mom remained dedicated to the farm and returned often to help Bob and Wanda with harvest. She would pick up parts and of course bring baking and meals. Lynda took a trip with Jeanette and her family to Costa Rica where she saw howler monkeys and even zip lined through the jungle. In 2014 Lynda moved with Bonnie and her family to Vancouver Island. She loved every bit of nature there from Goose Spit, the harbour, forest walks with the kids, to whale watching missions. Most of all Lynda treasured her “G-squad”, the beautiful friends she met at her condo. They shared hours of walks, coffee get togethers, laughs and friendship to last a lifetime. She truly missed them since moving back to Moose Jaw in 2018. Mom loved the trails near her home. She could spot ducks or geese and deer, even running into a coyote one morning. Best of all were the people who would stop to share a laugh. Mom loved one-liners and keeping things fun. Mom lucked out with beautiful neighbours and their kids all called her their bonus grandma. She adored them and felt so cared for having their friendship. She would make cupcakes or cookies and leave them at their doors. Mom was a baking queen and she loved finding a deal on flour at the co-op. A favourite part of moms day was her phone calls with friends. She had many dear friends ~too many to mention~but she loved each one and spoke often of her laughs or tears shared with you. Whether by phone, letter, Facebook or pop in visit. She leaves behind her children, Robert Pickering, wife Wanda, grandchildren Glendon (Crystal, Liam, Elyse) and Jade (Courtney, Everly, Theo), Jeanette Hilde, husband Chad, grandchildren Alex (Cheyenne, Kylee, Layn), Brett (Chelsey, Knox), Jonathan (Havanah), Daniel “D.J.”, and Sunni, Bonnie Pickering and grandchildren Max and Maddy. Her siblings who she loved dearly, Bob Eyolfson(Wendy), nieces Jennifer, Kimberly and Amanda, Kathy Price (Bill), nieces Myrna and Angela and Joanne Wetzel (Lawrence), niece Jodi, and nephews, Jeff and Randy. Lynda is predeceased by her mom and dad, husband Rodger and faithful dog Crissy. Moms life was a perfect blend of friendship, laughter, hard work and adventures. Anyone who was lucky enough to know mom would remember her strong shoulder and words of wisdom. Always ready for company with a homemade treat and a hot cup of coffee. Always a warm inviting home and big tight hug to share with anyone needing comfort. Thank you Lynda, , mother, momma, grandma, aunty, sister and friend for being all these things to so many of us. We will all miss you so dearly.
