Celebrating the Life of Irene Dvernichuk
With heartfelt sadness, the family announces the passing of our amazing mother and grandmother Irene Dvernichuk, on Saturday March 23rd, 2024, at the Regina General Hospital.
Irene was born on the farm by Bankend on February 5, 1939, to Fred and Annie Lazorko. She attended Birch Creek School until Grade 8 and then worked hard on the farm, picking rocks and weeds, milking cows, cooking and cleaning.
Irene met Walter Dvernichuk, the love of her life, when she was 14 years old and they married on October 25, 1958. It was a beautiful fall day and they were able to ride in her brother Merv’s convertible, with the top down. They were happily married for nearly 60 years. Together they raised 5 children.
Irene was truly a loving, generous, thoughtful, selfless, kind woman that we were all privileged to have as our amazing mother and grandmother. Mom loved the farm and wanted to continue living there as long as she was able, and that wish was fulfilled. We are grateful.
Irene loved her garden, but her flowers even more and she took pride in maintaining an immaculate yard (without a weed in sight). Driving into the yard was like driving into a park. She was also a great baker, cook and hostess, with no one ever going away hungry.
She was an active member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church of Edmore and assumed the Secretary / Treasurer role after Walter’s passing.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Karen, Yvonne (Colin Bowers), Lisa (Kelvin) Fedak and their sons Derek and Dakota (Richelle), Darren (Tricia) and their daughters Kara and Kaitlin.
Irene was predeceased by: her husband Walter; son Miles; parents Fred and Annie Lazorko and Walter’s parents Nicolai and Irene Dvernichuk. She was also predeceased by her sisters: Jean Gudmundson, Lorraine Petryshyn, Doreen (in infancy), and brothers Lawrence, Merv and an infant brother, as well as numerous brothers - in - law, sisters - in - law, nephews and a niece.
