With the heaviest of hearts and wounded souls, the family of Raymond Allan Helgason (October 2nd, 1943 - January 11th, 2021) formally announces his unfortunate passing at the age of seventy-seven years. He leaves behind his beloved wife Janice, his three children Christopher (Rhonda) Helgason, Robyn (James) Beatty, Sheryl (Leslie) Sand, his adoring grandchildren Kristian, Sonja, Kendra, Mason, Emily, Conner, four siblings, Gladys Gudmundson , Donna (Gerry) Benson, Sharon (Ken) Tuck, Lynda Waite and sister in law Shirley Collingwood along with many mournful nieces, nephews and friends. He joins his mother Evelyn, his father, Fredjoe and siblings Clifford,(Jean) Helgason, Darlo Albrecht-Helgason, Bobby Wayne Helgason, his in-laws George and Geneva Collingwood, brother in laws Len Gudmundson, Ken Waite, and his nephews Kelly Benson and Sheridyn Helgason. Raymond, known to the world as Allan, was born October 2nd, 1943. The sixth of eight children, he was anything but deprived of the love and care of a strong family structure which would shape his own in the years to come. From the early days of school in Birch Creek to a stint in Foam Lake and wrapping it up in Wishart, Allan wasted no time in making friendships with those around him. One stood out strong with a close friend of his sister Lynda’s which blossomed into something much, much more. Allan met his beloved wife Janice in 1964 and asked for her hand in marriage only two years following. Soon after, they welcomed their son Christopher, a daughter Robyn and their second daughter Sheryl to an ever evolving family tree. The prides and joy of his life, followed behind by the beloved farm and the honest work that came with. Allan held many jobs and respected titles but the heart of the heartland beat strongest of all. His love of animals meant never finding yourself short of a cow, dog, cat or a pig (or skunk, geese, guinea pigs, rabbits or anything else he could catch and tame) and, following a brief uprooting and move to Yorkton before finding their way back, meant the farm shaped him as much as he shaped his beloved farm. As deeply ingrained into his very being as the homestead may have been, Allan embodied the jack of all trades more than any. A respected welder for Leons, an accomplished heavy equipment operator for Norgard and Little Construction and a beloved farmhand in his “retirement” to the Dvernichuks; his passion burned strong in anything he deemed worthy to try. A strong work ethic on the clock bled through into his passions just the same. Allan’s woodworking was an art, his tools the brush and his projects the painting; adored by any and all to see. His hands always busy, countless engines in endless machines saw life birthed anew in any and all tractors, trucks and tinkering that he could possibly find. If the rings were painted, the ice laid and the brooms primed to sweep, you would most certainly find him near. His coffee poured just as strong as the conversation that it paired with; there will be nothing short of endless stories to be shared again with Ken and Hughie over endless cups of joe. His passions burned deep and his feelings blazed strong but Allan’s moon and the stars shone bright in the eyes of his adoring grandchildren. If you had the time (and even if you didn’t) he would never shy away from beaming bright with his affectionate stories and love for his six beloved grandchildren. From go-karts to games, tall tales and everything in-between, he shaped the impressionable, young minds into something just as permanent as their love for their Poppa. Allan wanted nothing more than to go quietly, underneath his favourite tree with a sunset in view and he got his wish. He laid underneath a behemoth of a tree he himself planted, with endless branches stretching as far as the eye could ever hope to see, overflowing with family and friends alike. He watched the sunset fall on his family tree; knowing it would rise again on a brand new day; with heavier hearts than before but strengthened deep by the impact he left behind. His family requests that any donation wished to be made is directed towards the family cemetery that he tended to with care that now cares for him just the same. Funeral Service At a later date Due to the restrictions of Covid-19 Pandemic Guidelines Memorial donations in memory of Raymond may be made to Icelandic Holar Cemetery, Box 99, Elfros, SK S0A 0V0
