Obituary
Garfield Malcolm MacGillivray was born March 28th, 1947 in Birch Hills; the first born to Malcolm MacGillivray and Mildred Graham. His brother Robert Donald was born on January 19th, 1948 and Stanley Allen May 2nd, 1951. On February 18th, 2019 we lost our beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Garfield attended school at Gardenia School from grade 1 to 8 and was taught by his mother. They moved to Quill Lake in 1957. He married Lynn Ellen Nicholls on March 25th, 1967. They welcomed their son Michael Allen MacGillivray on May 24th, 1967 and their daughter Terri Lynn MacGillivray on September 23rd, 1969. Garfield attended SIAST in Saskatoon and received his journeyman electrician. From there he went to work at Allen Potash Mine and Melfort Nabe Electric. In 1973, Lynn and Garfield started MacGillivray Electric in Bjorkdale, Sk. In 1976 they moved to Quill Lake. They started their next journey in 1983 with Wilderness Images. Their first photoshoot, was Kirk and Shirley in 1979 and from there his photography skills expanded from family to Wilderness images. They finally, with much stubbornness, retired in 2014. Throughout his life he belonged to many organizations. These included Mallard Wildlife Federation, Wadena Ducks Unlimited, Quill Lake Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, and Quill Lake Legion #37. His hobbies included wildlife photography, fishing, hunting, volunteering, and spending many hours with family and friends whether it be over a cup of coffee or grandma’s famous pie. Garfield was not just a hard working man and a big part of this community, but he was also the best husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend we could have ever asked for. He always chose to see the best in everyone and every situation. He had an appreciation for nature that could not be matched. We will forever be missing his hugs, his goofy smile, and his calm presence. Life will never be the same without our Garfield, but he has left an imprint on the hearts of all those who had the privilege to meet him, and for this and all of the memories we are so grateful. He is predeceased by his father Malcolm (1983), his brother Stanley (1988), and his grandson Kody (2015). Garfield will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years Lynn, their son Michael (Mickey), daughter Terri, grandsons Jared (Leah and son Alexander), Tyson (Saleena), and Karson, granddaughters Morgan (Justin), Nicole (Ryan and son Carter), and Kat (Brandon); mother Mildred; brother Robert (Janet); brother-in-laws James (Raymonde), and John (Mariann); sister-in-laws Sharon, Alice (David), Penny (Kerry), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, beloved friends, and extended family.
