My belated Condolences to Family Members on the passing of Judge Ace Chorneyko. Ace and I were Social Bunnys in the Sixtys and frequented the local pool room to test our skills. I moved away from Wynyard in 1961 and lost contact with Ace. I did bump into Ace in the 90's when he was a Replacement Judge in North Battleford and we did relive the past. I always treasured my visits and discussions with Ace.GOD REST HIS SOUL AND MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

Tena Bylyna of Rosetown SK phoned me the morning of Friday December 20, 2019, and read to me the obituary of Anasii Chorneyko. We both knew him well for we all stayed together at Mohyla Ukrainian Institute in Saskatoon back in the fifties. I retrieved a copy of my 'Kamenyari' student yearbook from 1954 and this is what then Director Nykolai Labuik wrote about Anasii:
"Anasii hails from Arran, Saskatchewan and is studying law at the university. This quiet, likeable lad (хлопак) has great potential and we believe that someday he will become a world renowned Ukrainian jurist (що він буде один з наших українських світо-знаних правників)"
It appears that Anasii's future was foretold by Labuik way back in 1954. His brillliance as a young law student shone through, and somehow Labuik knew that he was destined for success. This indeed was one of God's blessings foretold!

Seeing Judge Chorneyko’s obituary took me back to 1979 when I was articling at the Melfort legal aid clinic. I represented clients at centres like Archerwill and Naicom where Ace presided. New lawyers need lots of guidance and patience. Ace was very down to earth, straightforward and patient as I conducted trials or spoke to sentencing for the first time. On one occasion I was making a legal argument to him saying that the facts were a certain way so the law dictated a certain result. I remember him saying that I was right about the law but that unfortunately he didn’t agree with my facts, so he had to find my client guilty. I think he did so as gently as he could. I always remembered him with appreciation for his blunt but kind approach. He fulfilled his role very well and will be remembered by many people with appreciation. so very sad to hear of Ace's death but so glad I was able to talk to him again just a short while ago. Our condolences to the family .
Ace was an exceptional judge and did great things for a large number of people who appeared before him . He will be remembered for his straightforwardness , his keen mind but also for his patience and kindness. I recall many of our conversations after he retired when he would come to the court for his visits and share his great insights .
It is truly the end of an era and he had it great for all of us .
