MAY 3, 1932 – December 14, 2019 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dad. He passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 14 at the age of 87. Dad was predeceased by his wife Shirley (nee McCormick) in 2016; brothers Oleh & Yron Chorneyko; sisters-in-law Ellen McPhee, Anne, Dorothy, & Ann Chorneyko; brother-in-law Dave McPhee; nephews Earl and Barry McPhee. He is survived by his children Andrea (Tom Howe) – Matthew, Cole, Austin Briscoe and Allegra, Tammara Howe; Byron – Lucas Ness; Jason (friend Monica Merkosky); Orrin (Patty) – Roman, Annaka, Michael; Lara (Derek Morrow) – Jessica (Chris Lloyd), Justin, Amy Olynick and Blaze (Monica Trottier), Boston Morrow; Zane (Byeong Mi) – Alicia; brother Ihor Chorneyko; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Glenn & Ethel McCormick. He will also be missed by many nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Dad was born in Smoky Lake, Alberta on May 3, 1932 to Michael and Emily Chorneyko – the youngest of 4 sons. After a few moves, the family settled in Arran, Sask. where Dad graduated from high school. He studied at the University of Saskatchewan and convocated in 1956 with a combined Arts and Law degree. He articled in Yorkton, Sask. later becoming a junior partner with that firm. It was in Yorkton where Dad and Mom met, and they were married in 1961. In 1962, Dad was invited to become a partner at a Wynyard law practice. Another partner joined the firm and “Pillipow, Chorneyko & Kotyk” was founded with a branch office in Wadena, Sask. In 1976, Dad was appointed a Provincial Court Judge and retired 20 years later. He then served as a relief judge until 2007. Dad’s hobbies and interests included his children’s activities, community organizations and events. He served on the board of the Wynyard Memorial Arena for many years and until his passing, was a member and volunteer of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Both Mom and Dad were loyal community supporters and were involved and volunteered in many other ways. He was an avid card and billiards player. Dad and Mom thoroughly enjoyed the 18 winters spent in Arizona and were grateful for their long and healthy lives. We’re are also very appreciative of those who provided meals, food, cards, and words of comfort and support during our time of sorrow.
