Obituary
Lloyd John Ottman was born on November 30, 1926 to Edwin and Pearl Ottmann, and grew up in the Wadena area. Lloyd married the love of his life, Helen Volgyi, on April 21, 1951 in Lloydminster, SK. To this union three children were born: Garry James, Debra Lynne, and Rhonda Lea. In 1961, Lloyd and Helen moved to Wadena. Lloyd’s number one love was his family. He loved everyone’s visits anytime and for however long someone stayed, and was always ready to have a game of cards with whomever dropped by. He always had snacks and juice boxes for his cute little visitors, his great grandkids. Lloyd and Helen did a lot of travelling over the years. He had so many different interests over the years. He loved snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, and quadding. He loved the lake and had many cabins and homes there as well. He loved watching football and hardly ever missed watching a Rough Rider game. You could catch him enjoying “The Old Time Dance Party” on the television whenever he could find it playing. Lloyd had many different jobs over the years: a grain buyer to which is where he met the love of his life Helen, own and operated a service station/restaurant in Swan River, Mb, a bread truck driver for McGavins, built Lloyd’s Esso which was later Clark’s Service on Main Street in Wadena, owned and operated the Laundry Mat, drove school bus, owned Lloyd’s Jewlery which later was Jock’s Jewlery, the Shell Oil Bulk agent in Wadena, then pursued his love for cooking and owned and operated Ottman’s Grill, leased and ran the Beach Café at Greenwater and later in life, when he semi-retired, he bought a motorhome and converted it into a food truck. For many years, after he did finally retire, he loved being able to follow the Western Chuck Wagon and Chariot Association around Saskatchewan. He loved being with people, visiting with old friends and was happiest when he was out and about, busy with something or seeing someone. Lloyd’s health issues, threw him a few setbacks, but he recovered well, every time. He was a strong man and always fought to get better. After Helen passed away, Lloyd did have a lonely heart, but was always so happy to be with his family anytime. He loved his visits from his siblings, Paulette and Donny, and his visits from his nieces and nephews, even if it was a phone call. Lloyd had a very good long life of 93 years. He saw so many changes and touched the lives of so many people. He taught all of us that anything is possible with hard work and determination. Lloyd taught his children so many things. The one lifelong lesson that he taught his children and grandchildren is the value of family, and for that they will always have each other. Lloyd John Ottman passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at the Wadena Hospital at 93 years of age. The two weeks prior to his passing, the hospital was on “Lockdown” and his children were not able to visit him. The afternoon before he passed his daughters Debbie and Rhonda were finally allowed to visit him, he grabbed their hands, and they now know that he was saying good bye. Lloyd will lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his daughters: Debbie (Brian) Schultz of Kelvington, SK, and Rhonda (Troy) Leffler of Rose Valley, SK; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Nancy (Colby) Seefried of Calgary, AB and their son Brydan, Tim (Kathryn) Schultz of Wadena and their children Linden and Sadie, Scott (Kaydi) Schultz of Kelvington and their daughters Emma and Julie, Desirae Leffler (Anthony Talbot) of Rose Valley and their daughter Hadley, Shauntel Leffler (Bryce Walker) of Quill Lake, SK and their son Parker, and Riley Leffler of Moose Jaw, SK; siblings: Donnie (Marge) Ottmann of Ottmann’s Beach, SK, and Paulette (Cal) Haggard of Wadena; sister-in-law Jean Ottmann; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
