Obituary
Phyllis Ellen Bodnarchuk passed away on July 21, 2019, surrounded by family at Wynyard Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. She was 82 years old. Phyllis was born on November 8, 1936 to Nick and Olga Kostiuk in Wishart, SK, being the first of five children. She began school at Round Hills, then attended Larisa Country School, and Wynyard High School. Phyllis married Bill Bodnarchuk on February 20, 1955 and their honeymoon in Toronto turned into a 14 year stay and produced 4 wonderful children. Phyllis has often said that some of her happiest memories were from the time they lived in a very tiny house in Toronto, where they hosted more friends and family than the house could hold. Then in 1968, Phyllis and Bill moved their family back to their old stomping grounds in Wynyard. Once settled, Phyllis became the receptionist\health records technician at the brand new Wynyard Hospital where she worked for 29 years. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, and had served on liturgy, Parish Council and as Treasurer for the CWL. After retirement from the hospital, Phyllis enjoyed working part-time as a waitress at various local restaurants for a few years. She also travelled a lot during these years with friends, and some of her favourite destinations were Nashville, Branson and Hawaii. Over the years, Phyllis and Bill hosted many parties for family and friends, which always featured lots of good food, three-spot card games and their own live country music. Phyllis's love of music started when she was a teenager and she learned to play the guitar, followed by the mandolin and fiddle. She especially loved her old time Country Music and was also a talented singer. In addition to singing in the church choir and at weddings, her local band Phyllis and Friends entertained regularly at Wynyard Golden Acres, Westview and other local events. She was a member of the Tuffnell Circle Jammers in recent years and entertained throughout the Yorkton District Area. Phyllis loved dancing, and, when not entertaining herself, attended several dances throughout the Yorkton and district area regularly. She was proud of her vast collection of pictures, videos and music, and always had the radio tuned to her favourite country station. Phyllis was a "people person" and was thirsty for knowledge - always wanting to get to know others, listening to the news and asking questions. She always welcomed company into her home and stayed in touch with family and friends across Canada, and around home, everyone knew her. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends and neighbours. Phyllis was pre-deceased by her husband Bill (2002), her mother Olga (Senkiw) Kostiuk (2004), brother-in-law Sly Storzuk (2004) and her father Nick Kostiuk (2008). Phyllis is lovingly survived by her children: Cal (Deb) Bodnar of Surrey, BC, Carol (Fred) Kaustinen of Toronto, ON, Nancy (Rob) Hopkins of Regina, and Nolan (Dorthy) Bodnarchuk of Regina and five grandchildren: Blair Bodnar (Vancouver) Brett Bodnar (Langley) Jennifer (Dennis) Melnychuk (Wynyard), Brandon Fox (Regina) and Ariston Bodnarchuk (Regina); and one great grand-daughter Giada Melnychuk of Wynyard. She is also survived by her four siblings: Sandra Storzuk (Saskatoon), Betty (Len) DiNova (Toronto), George Kostiuk (Wishart) and Cliff Kostiuk (Wishart).
