Obituary
Mary had a wonderful long life. Born in the Kolynci district in Ukraine on Oct 22, 1922, she immigrated to Canada with her family in 1938 where they settled in Saskatchewan with some friends. When she was 18 she met a handsome young man at a dance named Matt Panasiuk. A short time later she moved to Ontario where she worked in the hospital followed by the WWII airplane factories and was considered one of the original Rosie and the Riveters. Matt knew she was his future bride so mailed her an engagement ring with a letter asking for her hand. She returned to Saskatchewan and they were married on Oct, 23 1944. They settled on a farm near Kylemore where they worked together for many years welcoming a daughter Helen in 1947 and a son Garry in 1955. They retired from farming in 1985 and then they bought a cabin at Fishing Lake and spent many happy days there. Mary and Matt loved fishing and having their family, especially their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, come to spend the summers with them enjoying cabin life. They enjoyed travelling and went to Hawaii, across the US and to their favorite destination Nova Scotia visiting their niece Holly and her family. They sold the farm and purchased a home in Wadena where they remained until Matt's passing in 2011. In 2012 Mary moved to senior housing where she spent many hours playing cards, exercising and enjoying new friends. She was active with her card playing group right up until the week before Christmas. She truly loved her Ukrainian heritage and her Ukrainian Catholic faith. Mary spent a great Christmas with her family and passed away on the evening of Dec 31st with her family by her side. She is survived by her daughter Helen (Bob) LeGoffe, their children Jackie (Rick), Michael (Aimee), Nicole (Curtis), her son Garry (Susan), his children Sarah (Michael) and Rachel (William) and her greatest joy her great-grandchildren Daniel, Hanna, Andrew, Maia, Everett, Livia and Liliana. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Nora Greene and brother-in-law John Panasiuk and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and George Kulyk, her loving husband Matt, sisters Minnie and Olga, brothers Mike and Bill. Mom we will never forget all the love you gave and you will be eternally loved by all. Memorial donations in memory of Mary may be made to St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery Fund Box 455, Wadena, SK. S0A 4J0
