Alvin Smith's Graveside Service Livestream - Please click here Alvin Elwood Smith was the second child and first son born to Willard and Beatrice Smith. He was born June 26, 1948 in Melfort, SK. Alvin lost his Mom Beatrice and sister Anne in a house fire in 1952. Alvin, his dad and two sisters survived the fire. Times were not easy but Alvin would often talk about Gail and Gloria and himself and how their life changed after that day. Willard married Pearl McDonald shortly after and they had 8 children together. While growing up, Alvin helped his father with farming. He often talked about spending his days picking rocks in the field. Alvin attended Byng School and later was bussed to Naicam. After high school, Alvin attended the University of Saskatchewan for agriculture and later obtained his qualifications as a Master Electrician in Calgary, AB. He met Darlene Goranson while attending high school. Alvin and Darlene were married on October 25th, 1969 and raised two children together, Terry and Tanya. They moved to Calgary in 1970 and resided there for a few years until they moved back to Naicam in 1974. Alvin and Darlene and their children lived in Naicam from 1974-1978. They moved back to Calgary in 1978. Darlene passed away in October 1995. Alvin was a supportive and caring husband who devoted all of his time and energy to caring for Darlene, raising their children and operating their family business. Alvin married Mary Lauzon (Draude) in June 2003. They continued to reside in Calgary until Alvin retired and they moved back to Naicam in 2015. Alvin and Mary enjoyed living in the Palm Springs area during the winter months and Naicam in the summer months. Alvin always considered Naicam his home. Alvin loved sports. He was an avid Calgary Flames and Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, cheering for teams from both of his home provinces. He loved to golf and he was fortunate to be able to spend many days on the golf course with his friends and family. Alvin loved to visit with friends and family in Calgary, Naicam and Desert Hot Springs. He had many nicknames, including Boob Smith, Big Al and Fix It Man. Alvin always had a smile on his face. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, watching them play hockey, ringette, soccer and any other activity they were interested in. He was a kind and caring son, father, grandfather and friend. He was, and always will be, well loved. Alvin was predeceased by his parents Willard and Beatrice Norum, and by his first wife Darlene Smith. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Mary, his two children Terry (Leanne) and his children, Kaelin, Karsen and Kamren and by Tanya (Mike) and their children, Sianna and Charlize. He is also lovingly remembered by his two step children, Vincent (Amy) and their children, Zachary and Lynden and Michelle (Trevor) and their children, Jarod and Carter. He will be deeply missed by all including his step mother Pearl Smith, siblings Gail (Rene), Gloria (Del), Joy (Brian), Shirley, Billy, Lorne (Muriel), Melvin (Jeannie), Rhonda and Sherrie and by Darlene’s two sisters Beverly (Eric) Hutchison and Donna (Garry) Albertson and by his sister in laws, brother in laws, nephews, nieces and many friends.
